Find Your Wild

  South Africa

Commonly referred to as ‘The Rainbow Nation’, South Africa complements its hallowed nickname with the promise of vibrant cultures, extraordinary natural beauty and a significant dose of the African spirit you won’t find on any other continent. Africa’s most developed nation, South Africa presents the ideal introduction to this astonishing continent, with a wonderful blend of beautiful beaches, dramatic scenery, diverse wildlife and rich history and culture.

Visit South Africa to discover Cape Town’s laidback lifestyle, chase the notorious ‘Big 5’ on an unforgettable game drive through Kruger National Park, feel soft sands between your toes in Durban and trace spectacular vineyards and valleys on the picturesque Garden Route... South Africa blends the best of Africa in one exceptional destination.

Safari & Wildlife

Situated in the east of South Africa, the world renowned Kruger National Park offers arguably the country's best game viewing. There is an immense variety of animal life including the Big Five, many species of antelope and other game and abundant bird life. Safari is also very popular in the Eastern Cape where there is a wide mix of game reserves to choose from and you can also get the opportunity to spot the Big Five. Aside from spotting the Big Five, South Africa is also popular for other types of wildlife including whales and penguins which are commonly found along the coastal Garden Route.

Scenic Highlights

From the rolling hills of South Africa's Winelands, the rugged coastline of the Garden Route to the striking Drakenberg Mountains South Africa is full of beautiful scenery round every corner. Cape Town is a very picturesque city with the backdrop of iconic Table Mountain in its midst. Take a trip to the Cape of Good Hope where rugged rocks and sheer cliffs tower more than 200m above the sea. Close to Cape Town you will find the Cape Winelands which are very serene and picture perfect with its looming mountains and green valleys.

The Garden Route stretches along the South-Eastern coast of South Africa from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to the Storms River. It covers many stunning coastal towns including Knysna and Plettenberg Bay which are famous for their sweeping vistas of pristine lagoons and beaches. The Northern and Central Drakensberg area has some of the most beautiful scenery that can be imagined. Blyde River Canyon is found in the Northern area; this is one of the largest canyons on Earth and the views from here are breathtaking.

Provinces

South Africa is split into nine provinces including Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, Western Cape and Northern Cape. Each one has its own charm and character and they collectively offer history, culture, stunning scenery, wildlife and adventure. Whatever type of holiday you are looking for South Africa will have something to cater to your tastes.

Activities

There are a wide range of activities available in South Africa depending on your interests. If you are looking for adventure you can try anything from scuba diving, whale watching and even cage shark diving. For history lovers you can take a trip to Robyn Island where Nelson Mandela was infamously incarcerated or visit the Apartheid museum in Johannesburg to learn about South Africa's gruelling past of racial segregation. For nature lovers you can enjoy safaris around many different parts of South Africa or go hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains.

Food & Wine

South Africa is renowned for its fine wines which you can sample on a wine tour around the winery estates of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands. Cape Winelands is also famous for its fine dining establishments. You can enjoy sampling some of the country's most delicious game or tasty meats straight from the braai (South African barbeque). Traditional African food is generally cooked over an open fire or in a three-legged pot (or potjie), so meat tends to be served in either stewed or grilled form. A starch usually accompanies the meat: mieliepap (maize porridge), potatoes or rice. Beetroot, carrots, cabbage and pumpkin are the vegetables most commonly served. Typical South African dishes include tripe, morogo, chakalaka, amadumbe, and the ubiquitous boerewors roll.
