Overview

Explore the spectacular National Parks and exciting cities of Eastern USA on this escorted tour. Make the most of the wide open spaces, stunning landscapes and iconic city sights. Start in Washington D.C., then head west to enjoy the spectacular colours of Shenandoah National Park, taste signature wines at the Veritas Winery and reconnect with nature at New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia, America’s newest National Park. You'll also get to take a behind-the-scenes tour of Citizen Vinyl Record’s press factory in Asheville, and explore the vast Biltmore Estate, America's largest privately owned home. A tour highlights is a picnic in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and your Insight Choice is either a tour to the caves of Mammoth Cave National Park or a visit to the National Museum of African American Music, the choice is yours. The trip ends in Nashville, aka Music City, making for a trip to remember.

Day 1

Arrive Washington D.C.

Arrive in Washington D.C. the nation's capital and a haven for art and history enthusiasts. Make your way independently to your hotel, and then depending what time you arrive you will have the some time to explore on your own before meeting your Travel Director and fellow travellers at a private welcome dinner with drinks at 6pm.

Day 2

Washington D.C. - Shenandoah Valley

The day today starts with a sightseeing tour of Washington D.C. View the iconic sites and monuments including the White House, Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. Enjoy a visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture on a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experience. This museum is dedicated to the documentation of African American life, history and culture. Afterwards the coach leaves the city and takes the group along Skyline Drive, a scenic route which takes you to Shenandoah National Park. Make the most of the spectacular views and colourful vistas in the park and then check into your accommodation. Enjoy an evening at leisure surrounded by the Shenandoah Valley.

Day 3

Shenandoah National Park

Enjoy a gentle hike along the Stoney Mountain Trail to get your day started today. This trail is part of the Appalachian Trail and offers some of the best views in Shenandoah National Park. Following the hike the group heads to Veritas Vineyards and Winery for wine tasting and a delicious farmhouse lunch. Veritas Vineyards offer views of the Blueridge Mountains so maybe take your wine out to the sundeck to sock up the views. Later in the day the coach heads to New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia where you'll stay for two nights.

Day 4

New River Gorge National Park

New River Gorge National Park might be the newest park in the American National Park System but it covers over 70,000 acres of land and provides beautiful views. Visit the Canyon Rim Visitor Centre and learn about the history and flora and fauna in the park. You will also enjoy a stroll along a picturesque boardwalk trail to find magnificent views over New River Gorge and New River Bridge. The afternoon is then yours to further explore the park or make the most of the hotels amenities. There is also the option to join a guided Bridge Walk to learn about the longest single arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere.

Day 5

Asheville

Leave the beautiful New River Gorge National Park behind and travel through the Virginia countryside and into North Carolina. Asheville is the destination for the next few days, once here you can unleash your inner musician with a tour of Citizen Vinyl Record press factory. You will get to hear about the history of the label and factory plus you will get to see the original WWNC radio station and studio. Later in the day the group embark on a walking food tour in Asheville which will take you to some of the most elegant, trendy and acclaimed tables in this foodie city.

Day 6

Asheville

Today is a more leisurely start so take your time and enjoy breakfast before heading to the magnificent Biltmore Estate, which is America's largest privetly owned home. Take a tour of this remarkable house and then explore the lush grounds. You will also get to learn about the Vanderbilt family though their clothing, accessories, art and furniture. After this morning activity spend the afternoon exploring Asheville at your own leisure. Or there is an optional River Arts District Tour where you can visit some working studios where local artist produce and display their work.

Day 7

Ashville - Gatlinburg

Today you will enjoy one of the most beautiful drives in America as you drive via the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Great Smoky Mountains. On route to the Great Smokey Mountains the group will stop at Oconaluftee Indian Village for a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER, here a Cherokee cultural expert with take you on an interactive journey through Cherokee life and history. Later in the day when you reach the Great Smokey Mountains National Park the group will visit the Mountain Farm Museum to discover the importance of agriculture to the park's ecosystem. At the farm you will also get to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch before heading to the next hotel.

Day 8

Getlinburg - Nashville

Up first today is a visit to the Museum of Appalachia where you will be able to roam the rooms of this living mountain village and learn about the people of Appalachia. Afterwards feast on a full Southern Appalachian country lunch whilst you enjoy authentic traditional bluegrass music from the museum band. After lunch the coach heads for Nashville where you will get an orientation tour of the Music City. See the picturesque Riverfront Park, Tennessee State Capitol and the 132-acre Centennial State Park. You will then get a tour of the Ryman Auditorium, the former home of the Grand Ole Opry and a must on any Nashville tour.

Day 9

Nashville

Today you get a choice of how you would like to spend your morning with an Insight Choice. Choose to visit the National Museum of African American Music a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experience, or visit Mammoth Cave National Park and explore the intricate cave system with a guide. The afternoon is then yours to explore Nashville, maybe head down Broadway to soak up the live music and vibrant atmosphere. In the evening join back up with your fellow travellers for a Celebration Dinner at a local restaurant to toast to your last night.

Day 10

Nashville
