Overview

Embark on this 10-day Peru tour, discovering all its hidden gems, stunning buildings, and culture - both old and new. Start in the capital Lima, seeing attractions like the Cathedral of Lima, the Government Palace, and the City Hall. Next, head to ancient Cusco, with stops in the Sacred Valley. You’ll visit the Maras salt pans learning all about where the Incas used to harvest their salt. Machu Picchu is next. Visit the Ollantaytambo ruins on your way there, and then learn about its history and archaeology, exploring the area with your guide. End your Peruvian adventure in Cusco with plenty to do and explore. Why not partake in an optional Choco Museum visit learning all about how cacao beans are turned into delicious bars of chocolate? So, let’s get exploring, Peru is calling! 

Day 1

Arrive in Lima

Arrive in Lima where you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Get settled in and then meet with your guide and group in the evening for dinner and drinks.

Day 2

Lima

Explore colourful Lima, Peru’s capital, with your guide this morning. See attractions like the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima and the City Hall. You’ll also visit Casa Aliaga, a mansion the Aliaga family have lived in for 17 generations! If you appreciate art set off to private museum, Museo Larco in Lima’s Pueblo Libre District, housing the largest collection of Pre-Colombian art. After, you’ll have a bite to eat and then a local guide will show you around Museo Larco. In the evening return to your hotel to relax or continue the night depending on your mood.

Day 3

Lima - Cusco - Sacred Valley

Transfer to the airport in the morning and catch your flight to the ancient capital, Cusco. After, tour the Sacred Valley seeing stunning views as you drive along. Get your camera ready and stop for some photos before enjoying some lunch at Altar Inca. The evening is yours to make.

Day 4

Sacred Valley

Kick off today with a visit to the Maras salt pans where the Incas used to harvest their salt. This salt is now exported to the whole world. You’ll then head to an Incan laboratory in Moray which is now an archaeological site near Cusco. You’ll learn about the ideal altitude needed to grow crops in the Sacred Valley. After, visit local and traditional Quechua weaver in the Sacred Valley, learning about how these textiles shape personal and regional identities. After, travel to Laguna Piuray and enjoy a Pachamanca which is a traditional Peruvian feast. In the evening, transfer to Hacienda Huayoccari and discover this side of the Sacred Valley. Exploring its grounds and small museum. You’ll then sit down for a special Peruvian dinner before heading back to your hotel.

Day 5

Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Travel to the station for your IncaRail train ride today. You’ll enjoy lunch on the way to Machu Picchu pueblo, the village that will lead you to Machu Picchu. You’ll visit the Ollantaytambo ruins on the way, with another stop at a local house in the village’s cobblestoned old town, visiting the family who live there. In the afternoon you’ll visit Machu Picchu and go on a guided visit in small groups, exploring the ruins and learning about their history and archaeology as well as the importance of their location. End the day with a relaxing dinner at your hotel.

Day 6

Machu Picchu

Take in the breath-taking Machu Picchu landscapes again today. Spend the morning exploring with your guide. The afternoon is free. You could relax at your hotel, or you might want to explore Aguas Calientes and take in the scenery and sights. Spend the evening as you wish before having dinner with your group.

Day 7

Machu Picchu - Cusco

Return to Ollantaytambo by train after breakfast. You’ll then transfer to the ancient city, Cusco. It has a mix of Spanish colonial architecture, ancient remains and a vibrant cosmopolitan scene for modern inhabitants. When you arrive in Cusco go for a walking tour with a local guide. Visit the cathedral and the Qorikancha temple which was the most important temple in the Inca Empire. In the evening you might want to go out in town, ask your local guide for local restaurant and bar recommendations.

Day 8:

Cusco

Go on a walking tour of Sacsayhuaman today. After, join an optional guided hike of the Inca ruins at Puca Pucara. Or you can explore San Blas and see its prestigious art galleries. After lunch at Pachapappa, visit the San Blas Church and its streets before heading to San Pedro Market. There you can find local produce. Later on, make your way to the city’s planetarium and experience a private, after-hours tour. You’ll learn about astronomy, cosmology, and its influence on Andean culture. You might want to try some local delicacies which you can have with hot wine.

Day 9

Cusco
