Overview

Discover Tasmania’s most talked about attractions on this incredible escorted tour. This nine-night itinerary will start and finish in Launceston, allowing you to make a loop of this epic Island state. The adventure will begin as you venture through Northern Tasmania’s wine-making region and over to Freycinet National Park, one of many picturesque National Parks you’ll visit during your trip. Stunning scenery will come in spades as you stroll the shores of Lake St Clair, feel the spray of Russell Falls and gaze out over the natural wonder of Cataract Gorge. 

 

As well as experiencing what nature has to offer, you will also spend time in the capital city of Hobart, browsing the bustling Salamanca market and hopping over to the nearby historic town of Port Arthur. Knowledgeable guides will meet you along the way to tell tales of the past, such as haunting stories of convicts buried at Isle of the Dead and the happenings of the former penal colony of Sarah Island. Day 1

Arrive Launceston

Arrive in Tasmania, Australia’s rugged island state and be transferred to your hotel in Launceston. You’ll receive a warm welcome as you enjoy a drink and canape reception at James Boag’s Brewery, followed by a welcome dinner at your hotel.

Day 2

Bicheno

Travel north through Tasmania’s wine-producing region, as you make your way to Bridestowe Lavender Estate for a guided tour. You’ll have the chance to sample some of the lavender inspired products, such as honey, soap and oil. In the afternoon you’ll continue onto the seaside town of Bicheno, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 3

Freycinet National Park - Port Arthur

Today you’ll venture into Freyicent National Park, situated on Tasmania’s east coast and home to the beautiful Wine Glass Bay. Time will be spent walking through the park with a naturalist guide, exploring towering granite peaks and stunning views. On the way to Port Arthur, your base for the night, there’ll be a stop in Richmond for a sneak peek at Australia’s oldest bridge.

Day 4

Port Arthur- Hobart

First up today is a cruise around one of Port Arthurs most historic sites, the Isle of the Dead. Your guide will recall haunting stories of the convicts buried within this well-preserved site. After this sobering activity it's time for something a little more upbeat, as you get up close and personal with the states most infamous residents, Tasmanian Devils.

Day 5

Hobart

It’s time to experience one of Tasmania’s most visited attractions, as you explore the award-winning Salamanca market in the capital city of Hobart. Browse over 300 stalls, selling everything from hand-made jewellery to locally produced gin. For those that wish to explore a little further afield, there’s also the opportunity to take an optional ‘enhance your journey’ trip to Bruny Island (extra charges will apply).

Day 6

Russell Falls- Strahan

Witness extraordinary scenery today in Mt Field National Park as you take a short walk through some of the tallest trees in Australia to Russell Falls. A highlight of this leisurely stroll will be catching a glimpse of Lake St Clair, a tranquil body of water spanning 17 square miles and in parts has a depth of 215 metres, making it Australia’s deepest lake. In the evening you’ll arrive in the town of Strahan where a buffet dinner at View 42° Restaurant & Bar awaits.

Day 7

Strahan- Gordon River

Your day will start with a cruise across Macquarie Harbour and into the World Heritage-listed Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. You’ll gently sail through the parks rugged landscape, marvelling at dramatic mountain peaks until you reach Sarah Island. A knowledgeable guide will greet you and explain how this former Penal Colony spent their day’s felling pine trees for boat building.

Day 8

Stanley- Smithton

More gorgeous scenery is the flavour of the day as you enjoy the serene surrounding of Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Gaze up towards snowy mountain peaks or out over Dove Lake, a popular fishing spot due to the plentiful number of trout within. Be sure to work up an appetite, as tonight there will be a three-course feast of seasonal delights at Tall Timbers.

Day 9

Launceston

Those with a sweet tooth are in luck today as you make a stop at House of Anvers, a chocolate haven opened by a Belgian born chocolatier. After stocking up on sweet treats you’ll journey through the historical town of Deloraine on the banks of the Meander River and continue until you arrive back in Launceston.
