Experience the highlights of South Africa on this 12 day self-drive adventure. Start your trip in exciting Cape Town where you will stay in a boutique guest house in the heart of the city. Jump on a cable car to travel up iconic Table Mountain or spend an afternoon enjoying some retail therapy at the Victoria & Albert Waterfront. The wine region is next, and a stay in quirky Stellenbosch, home to art galleries, bars and restaurants and surrounded by lush vineyards. Self-drive your way along the Garden Route with stops in Oudtshoorn and Plettenberg Bay, both of which offer a great base for exploring.
As a final stop you will fly north for a two night safari at Motswari Game Reserve. This private game lodge is located in the Timbavati, an area unfenced to the wildlife-rich Kruger National Park allowing an abundance of animals to flow through the park.
Arrive in Cape Town today where you will be greeted and taken to your boutique guesthouse in the city bowl. Spend the next two days exploring the Mother City, where top sites include beautiful Camps Bay and the lively V&A Waterfront. Make sure you take the cable car up Table Mountain on a clear day for sweeping views across the city. Visit Boulders Beach to see the resident penguins waddling along the shore or take a trip down to Cape Point for breath-taking views across the Atlantic. Robben Island is a must-see, the prison which once held Nelson Mandela for 18 years now offers an immersive experience, brought to life by ex-convicts– many of whom were imprisoned alongside Mandela.
Overnight in Four Rosmead
Depart the city this morning and make your way to the wine region, and the small town of Stellenbosch. Why not take a detour down to Cape Point for spectacular views across the Atlantic Ocean and visit Boulders Beach for a picnic with the penguins. On arrival into Stellenbosch make your way to your boutique hotel, with only 21 rooms, Majeka House is a stunning design hotel located in a quiet suburb of Stellenbosch. Settle into your room, relax by the pool or head out to explore the town this afternoon.

Set in the heart of the Cape Winelands, Stellenbosch is a quirky town with a thriving student population. Art galleries, bars and restaurants give the town a buzz and make Stellenbosch a great place to lose an afternoon. Book a tour on the wine tram or a private visit to one of the nearby cellar doors for wine tasting and picnics among the vines.

Departing the wine region today you will drive east where you have a two night stay at Rosenhof House, a five-star boutique property in Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world and the gateway to the Klein Karoo. With a dry climate and sunshine for over 320 days a year this region is a perfect stop during your self-drive along the Garden Route. This evening why not book a star-gazing tour in the Klein Karoo and experience a spell-binding 'tour' through the celestial 'High Five'.

A stay in Oudtshoorn isn't complete without seeing an ostrich! Learn more about the earth's largest bird and enjoy interactive encounters with these fascinating creatures by arranging a visit to a local Ostrich Farm. This afternoon why not take a scenic drive to the Cango Caves, South Africa's oldest attraction and a highlight of the Klein Karoo. Explore the huge caverns with Stalagmites and Stalactites and learn about how this 20 million year old attraction came to be.

After breakfast it's time to hit the open road and take a drive along the world-famous Garden Route. The scenery is breath-taking, featuring rolling hills, unspoiled lagoons and dramatic coastline. Make tracks for Plettenberg Bay, where you’ll stay at Robberg Beach Lodge. Just five minutes’ drive from Plett’s galleries, restaurants, coffee shops and bars, this lovely hotel is a convenient haven, right by the beach. And Plettenberg Bay is a great place for whale-watching – so why not head out to sea one day, in search of these gentle giants?

There is plenty to keep you entertained in and around Plettenberg Bay. Monkeyland, the world's first free-roaming primate sanctuary is home to nine different species rescued from captivity and given the most natural life possible. With over 550 primates you will get up close to these wonderful animals and learn about their life in the sanctuary, a 120 metre suspension bridge runs through the canopy giving a unique perspective on these captivating creatures.

Its time to leave the Western Cape and take a short flight north to the Kruger National Park. Your lodge for the next two nights is located in the Timbavati, a reserve adjacent to the Kruger which is unfenced to the national park. Wildlife and big game flow freely between the areas and gives a rich and abundant game experience. An area renowned for it's big cats you are sure to see prides of lions and if you're lucky the elusive leopard and cheetah. On arrival you will be taken to your lodge on a private reserve where you can hard out on an evening game drive.

Your day starts early with a wake up call and a cup of hot coffee or Rooibos tea to prepare you for your morning game drive. The cool mornings are a great time to spot big cats before they retire to the shade to avoid the midday sun and your experienced guide will find the best spots for photo opportunities. Relax at the lodge during the heat of the day before heading back out on safari in late afternoon. Why not pre-book a night in the Giraffe's Nest Hide, a luxury open air treehouse, so you can enjoy a private dinner and sleep beneath the stars.
