Overview

Take a tour of one of South Africa’s most renowned areas, the scenic and culture enriched Garden Route where travellers can revel in the wonders of this beautiful stretch of land. From charming towns to the natural wonders of lofty peaks and ancient caverns, guests can get to grips with the people, animals and beautiful scenery that adorns this unforgettable region. This tour sees a perfect balance of sightseeing and free time to explore the region even more.

 

Why not add on a stay in Cape Town before your tour along the Garden Route? With world-class accommodation and epic sights such as Table Mountain, Robben Island and Cape Point this is a perfect start to your South Africa holiday!

 

From Port Elizabeth you can add on a safari in either the Eastern Cape or take a short flight north to Kruger National Park, no trip to South Africa is complete without a game viewing experience.

Day 1

Cape Town to Oudtshoorn

Begin your South African adventure by leaving the bustling city of Cape Town and travelling along Sir Lowry's Pass with its magnificent views. Stop at a farm stall to purchase some locally produced products before continuing to Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet.

 

Continue on via Swellendam and the Tradouw Pass to Barrydale. Sample delicious wines in Calitzdorp before continuing to Oudtshoorn, the 'ostrich feather capital' and home to many ostrich farms.

Day 2

Oudtshoorn

After a leisurely breakfast take a tour of the Cango Caves, one of the worlds greatest natural wonders and a spectacular example of limestone sculpted through the ages. Afterwards enjoy a wine tasting at a local wine estate in the scenic Schoemanshoek Valley.

 

This afternoon head back to Oudtshoorn for an interactive guided tour of a working ostrich farm.

Day 3

Knysna

Travel over the Outeniqua Pass to George, the sixth oldest town in South Africa, with many historical landmarks like the Slave Tree and King Edward VII Library building; said to be the best example of Edwardian architecture in the town. The tour travels via Wilderness, an attractive holiday resort to Knysna, known as the oyster box of South Africa, nestling on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the Garden Route.

 

Enjoy a lagoon cruise to the Featherbed Nature Reserve (weather permitting), where you can take a trailer ride to the top of the Western Head to enjoy panoramic views of the town and lagoon, returning for lunch. The afternoon is at leisure to further explore this charming town set around a natural harbour lagoon.

Day 4

Knysna

Today you’ll have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the Knysna area. Your journey will include a visit to the Garden of Eden, set in the lush, green, indigenous Knysna forest. The major attraction is the forest itself, beautiful yellow wood trees, thick green foliage and streams. Afterwards you’ll have the opportunity to visit Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, where you will be able to see a variety of primates, roaming free in the forest. The sanctuary is well known for its efforts to rehabilitate and free previously caged primates.

 

The tour continues to the famous Eastern Head, where you will enjoy spectacular views of the Knysna Heads (weather permitting). Afterwards you’ll travel to Brenton on Sea, a breath-taking holiday location and a nature lover’s paradise with its unspoilt beaches and peaceful surroundings. The remainder of the afternoon will be at leisure.

Day 5

Stormsriver to Tsitskamma

Travel to Plettenberg Bay, the jewel of the Garden Route, before visiting Birds of Eden sanctuary, the biggest single free flight aviary in the world. The sanctuary was developed to create a safe environment in which to release a large collection of free-flight African birds. Continue the journey to Bloukrans Bridge, the highest single span arch bridge in the world, currently offering the highest commercially operated Bungy Jump in the world. Visit the Tsitsikamma National Park and Storms River Mouth (weather permitting).

Day 6

Port Elizabeth

The final days sees you travel eastwards along the Tsitsikamma Forest to the “friendly city” of Port Elizabeth. Enjoy a city orientation tour of the Port town where upon arrival the tour comes to an end. Guests may request to disembark at Port Elizabeth Airport.
