Overview

You’ll experience some of South Africa’s highlights while witnessing its diverse and beautiful scenery on this six-day circular adventure. Beginning and ending in Cape Town, you’ll combine the iconic Garden Route with a journey through the lush Cape Winelands.

Travel from the semi-arid wilderness of the Little Karoo to the Garden Route, where you’ll be indulged with amazing views over rugged coastline, deep gorges, rolling hills, ancient forests, mountain peaks, and vibrant lagoons

And it’s not just the scenery that will take your breath away. You’ll spot an array of wildlife on two big game drives and witness Southern Right whales, breaching and rolling in the ocean, from the Hermanus seafront (between August and November).

You’ll also have opportunities to learn about the country’s fascinating history, stopping off at the pretty towns of Montagu, Knysna, Swellendam and Franschhoek along the way.

This packed tour will see you tick plenty off your South African travel wishlist as you make memories to last a lifetime.

Day 1

Cape Town – Barrydale – Oudtshoorn

Your journey begins as you leave Cape Town. Your tour will take you through the Little Karoo – a craggy, desert-like region surrounded by three spectacular mountain ranges – towards the historic spa town of Montagu.

You’ll stop off in the peaceful village of Barrydale, where you’ll meet children and teachers at a local farm school and learn about the area’s farming community. Continuing east, you’ll arrive at Oudtshoorn – known as the ostrich capital of the world – where you’ll spend the night.

Day 2

Oudtshoorn – Cango Caves – Knysna

After breakfast you’ll visit the spectacular Cango Caves at the foothills of the Swartberg range. The caves are one of the country’s most popular attractions, with fascinating limestone formations creating an impressive series of tunnel-linked chambers.

You’ll return to Oudtshoorn for lunch and a visit to an ostrich farm before making your way through the mountains, via the incredible views of the Outeniqua Pass, to George – the largest town on the Garden Route.

A pretty and meandering drive, passing rivers and gorges, will bring you to the quaint town of Knysna – considered the heart of the Garden Route. On the edge of a vivid blue lagoon, and surrounded by ancient forest, Knysna is known as the oyster capital of South Africa – if you’re travelling between May and September, be sure to try some at one of the town’s many waterfront restaurants.

Day 6

Franschhoek – Cape Town

On the last day of your tour, you’ll journey through the centuries-old vineyards that thrive in the fertile valleys of this region.

You’ll stop off at the spectacular valley of Franschhoek – where French Huguenots settled more than 300 years ago, bringing their vines and world-famous cuisine with them. A local guide will take you on a tour through the tree-lined avenues of the idyllic sleepy village, sharing the fascinating history including the Huguenot Memorial Museum.

You’ll then return to the buzz of Cape Town where your tour ends and you’ll make your onward journey.
