Overview

You’ll journey from Johannesburg to Cape Town on this immersive 16-day adventure, showcasing South Africa’s contrasting highlights – from scenery and wildlife, to high culture and fine cuisine.

Awe-inspiring views will be yours, as you travel along the spectacular Panorama Route to the 'place where the sun rises’– Mpumalanga. Then you’ll search for the Big Five on game drives through the world renowned Kruger National Park and Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park.

Driving high into the mountains, to the tiny Royal Kingdom of Swaziland, you’ll experience Swazi culture before learning about authentic Zulu traditions in KwaZulu Natal.

Your adventure continues when you land at Port Elizabeth and begin to explore the beauty of the iconic Garden Route – travelling from the wild coastline to the unspoilt Tsitsikamma National Park. Continue on towards the charming coastal resort of Plettenberg Bay and idyllic Knysna before visiting an ostrich farm and the Cango Caves in rural Oudtshoorn.

The finale of your epic South African adventure is four days spent exploring the captivating Mother City of Cape Town, from spectacular Cape Point to the idyllic rolling hills and vineyards of the Winelands. This is what memories are made of.

Day 1

Johannesburg

After landing in Johannesburg, you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel where you’ll spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Days 2

Panorama Route – Hazyview

Today you’ll leave Johannesburg and travel to Mpumalanga – the Zulu name for 'place where the sun rises’ – via the magnificent Panorama Route. The most spectacular stretch of the Panorama Route is the Blyde River Canyon. From many vantage points you’ll have a view of the 33-kilometre-long gorge, which starts at Bourke's Luck Potholes and ends at the Three Rondavels. 

Time and weather permitting, you’ll stop off at God's Window and the Mac Mac Falls to soak up the amazing views. By late afternoon you’ll arrive at your hotel, where you’ll have time to relax and freshen up before dinner.

Day 3

Hazyview – Kruger National Park

Early this morning you’ll head out on an open vehicle safari through the iconic Kruger National Park. The world-renowned park offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in South Africa. At nearly two million hectares, the park is home to an impressive variety of flora and fauna. 

You’ll return to your hotel in the afternoon and spend the rest of your day at leisure. You’ll have the option to return to Kruger National Park to absorb the tranquil beauty of an evening safari (additional charge applies).

Day 4

Swaziland – Lobamba 

After breakfast, you’ll travel to the Royal Kingdom of Swaziland. This tiny mountainous kingdom is filled with bygone African traditions and culture and offers beautiful scenery and attractions, such as game reserves, and art and craft outlets. Enjoy a showcase of the traditional Swazi culture followed by lunch at the Matsamo Cultural Village. 

Continue to the Ngwenya glassworks to see master craftsmen create beautiful sculptures and artwork from molten glass. After spending some time at the Mbabane craft markets, you’ll travel to your hotel in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley.

Day 5

KwaZulu Natal – Ubombo Mountains

This morning you’ll take a visit to the Swazi Candles factory, where each candle is made and finished by hand using the age-old technique 'millefiore'. You’ll continue on, via Big Bend, into KwaZulu Natal. 

Arriving at your hotel in the afternoon, you’ll take a scenic drive up into the Ubombo mountains, with views over turquoise Lake Jozini. The drive will be combined with a visit to an authentic Zulu homestead for a glimpse into Zulu life in today's world. You’ll return to your hotel for dinner.

Day 6

KwaZulu Natal – Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park

Today you’ll have the morning to relax and enjoy at your leisure.

After lunch (not included), you’ll be transferred to Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park for an afternoon of game viewing. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi covers a combined area of 90, 000 hectares and it was here that the white rhino was saved from extinction. 

You’ll return to your hotel in the late afternoon and end the day with dinner at the hotel.

Day 7

iSimangaliso Wetland Park – Durban 

This morning you’ll continue your journey along the Elephant Coast of KwaZulu Natal to St Lucia, located at the southern extremity of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park – a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you’ll take an estuarine boat trip which provides an opportunity to view crocodiles, hippo and numerous bird species, including the elusive African Kingfisher Eagle, in their natural habitat. 

You’ll continue on to the coastal city of Durban. You’ll arrive at your hotel in the afternoon, located on the Gold Mile – Durban's distinctive beach front.

Day 8

Durban – Port Elizabeth

This morning you’ll take a short city tour of Durban where you’ll discover the cultural and historical contrasts of the city. Later on you’ll check in at Durban International Airport for your flight to Port Elizabeth (flight cost not included).

On arrival at Port Elizabeth Airport you’ll be transferred to your hotel.

Day 9

Tsitsikamma National Park – Plettenberg Bay 

Today you’ll leave Port Elizabeth and travel via the coastline to Tsitsikamma National Park.

Tsitsikamma is described as the 'garden of the Garden Route' as it’s such a beautiful place. Enjoy a walk along the suspension bridge across the Storms River mouth gorge which offers visitors incredible views and great photo opportunities. 

After exploring Tsitsikamma you’ll continue on to Plettenberg Bay for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 10

Plettenberg Bay – Birds of Eden – Marie Encounter Boat Trip (optional)

After breakfast you’ll visit Birds of Eden – the largest free-flight bird aviary in the world.

After lunch (not included), you can enjoy the afternoon at your leisure or take an optional marine encounter boat trip (weather and time permitting; additional charge) before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 11

Knysna – Oudtshoorn

After breakfast and check-out, you’ll pay a visit to the lagoon-side town of Knysna – a gem of the Garden Route. You’ll enjoy some time at leisure, exploring the Knysna Waterfront, before travelling to Oudtshoorn – the ‘feather capital’ of the world due to its large ostrich industry. Here you’ll visit a working ostrich farm for a guided tour.

Day 12

Oudtshoorn – Cango Cave Tour – Cape Town

After breakfast and checking-out of your hotel you’ll take a morning tour of the awe-inspiring Cango Caves before departing Oudtshoorn. The limestone chambers of the Cango Caves are one of the natural wonders of the world and have become a major attraction in the Karoo area.

You’ll then travel via scenic Route 62 to Barrydale for lunch (not included) before heading to Cape Town.

Day 13

Cape Town – Cape Point & Peninsula Tour

This morning you’ll be collected for a full day tour of the Cape Point and Peninsula. On this spectacular tour you’ll pass magnificent beaches, breathtaking views and historic and picturesque coastal villages on the way to the towering headland known as Cape Point.

Day 14

Cape Town – Cape Winelands Tour

You’ll spend your day on a tour of the Cape Winelands. During the delightful drive you’ll wind your way to the heart of the Winelands, through awe-inspiring mountain ranges and lush vineyards, passing quaint Cape Dutch homesteads.

Day 15

Cape Town City Tour

This morning you’ll be collected from your hotel for a city tour – a geographical and cultural showcase of Cape Town, from its historical beginnings to the dazzling modern shopping malls of the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Afterwards, continue exploring the Mother City or return to your hotel and spend the remainder of your day at leisure.

Day 16

Cape Town – Depart
