020 3944 2201On this exciting 15-day Western Discovery tour, you’ll discover California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. Marvel at glittering Las Vegas, explore Cali’s sun-soaked cities, and explore Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. This circular route allows you to see the highlights, landmarks and stunning scenery of four of the Western states. And you can sit back and relax, as this is a fully escorted tour with both a driver and a guide.
Starting in Los Angeles, the tour heads down to laidback San Diego, before taking you into the desert to see how the other-half live in Palm Springs, the winter playground for Hollywood royalty. Next, you'll travel into Arizona, ticking off Phoenix and Mesa. And, of course, no tour of the Western states would be complete without a stop at the Grand Canyon. After a few days in Arizona, you'll hop over into Utah to explore the Lake Powell, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park, all of which boast stunning scenery.
Your next stop is Sin City. We couldn't skip Las Vegas, so you'll have a full day to explore The Strip and its many themed hotels. Afterwards, you'll drive through Death Valley and on to beautiful Yosemite National Park. Your trip continues with some time in San Francisco, where you can ride on the famous cable cars, visit Alcatraz, or watch the sea lions in the marina. Your coach then makes its way down the coast through Monterey, Carmel, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara before returning to Los Angeles.

Your first day involves a daytrip to San Diego, California’s second-largest city. Travel south of LA through San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, before enjoying a city tour of San Diego. You'll then spend some time at the picturesque Seaport Village and the relaxing Bayfront marketplace.
Overnight – Sonesta Anaheim Resort Area
From Los Angeles, you'll travel through Palm Springs. The winter playground for Hollywood’s royalty, this place has a lively Downtown and immaculate golf courses. Then you'll travel through Indio, home to the International Date Festival in the Coachella Valley.
Overnight – Delta Hotel Phoenix Mesa
Today you'll travel through the Sonoran Desert, a rich and biodiverse ecosystem, to Sedona. This city is in a unique geological area, filled with red rock monoliths. The coach then carries on through the breath-taking Oak Creek Canyon, before reaching the Grand Canyon National Park. Stop at the rim to get the best views of of this mile-deep gorge.
Overnight – Yavapai West
Today, your tour group enters the Navajo Indian Reservation and passes the trading post of Cameron. You'll see the Painted Desert and the region of Monument Valley, which provides scenic views and some of the most iconic images of the American West. In the afternoon, you'll stop at the town of Page, situated on a mesa above the Colorado River.
Overnight – Best Western view of Lake Powell
Glen Canyon Dam is one today's agenda. It's the second-highest concrete-arch dam in America, and also boasts lovely views of Lake Powell. The coach carries on into Utah, a state known for its Mormon Community. Pass through Kanab and then visit the spectacular Bryce Canyon, where you can enjoy a tour of the multi-coloured sandstone spires and pinnacles. In the evening, if the weather permits, enjoy star-gazing in the desert, as the sky fills with sparkling stars and bright constellations.
Overnight – Ruby’s Inn
Drive through Zion National Park and see the massive rock formations that have been carved out over millions of years by the wind and the Virgin River. In the afternoon, prepare to be dazzled by the ‘Entertainment Capital of the World’. In Las Vegas, you can look forward to round-the-clock shopping, glitzy shows, many casinos, and exciting themed hotels. The coach will also stop off at the infamous 'Welcome to Las Vegas' sign so you can snap a memorable photo.
Overnight – Luxor Las Vegas – Pyramid Room
After a night in glamourous Las Vegas, you'll head to Death Valley for an extreme contrast of scenery. Stop at Zabriskie Point and Furnace Creek Ranch Visitor Centre, before carrying on to the alpine resort town of Mammoth Lakes (but if Tioga Pass is closed, the tour will go via Fresno). Made famous for its gold mining in the 19th century, this place is now all about skiing and beautiful mountain vistas.
Overnight – Mammoth Mountain Inn or Piccadilly Inn
If the weather permits, you'll journey along the Tioga Pass into the scenic wonderland that is Yosemite. Marvel at the splendours of the glacial-shaped granite formation of El Capitan, Half Dome and the magnificent Bridal Falls. You'll stay overnight near Modesto.
Overnight – Doubletree by Hilton Modesto
It’s an early start today, as you've got a long drive to San Francisco, one of the most beloved cities in America. You'll enjoy a comprehensive sightseeing tour, before being taken to your hotel. If you want to, you can also join an optional City by Night Tour for a memorable evening.
Overnight – Parc 55 or Hilton Union Square
Another day at leisure means that you can explore this wonderful city at your own pace, but your Tour Director is on hand to assist with making plans. You could ride the cable-car to Fisherman’s Wharf, enjoy local seafood and decadent Ghiradelli’s chocolates at Taste of San Francisco, or take a stroll by the marina to watch the sea lions. On a clear day, you'll be able to see Alcatraz, the island prison where some of America’s most wanted were incarcerated. You can take a tour of Alcatraz, but please be aware you'll need to book this well in advance.
Alternatively, if you want to get out of the city, there's the option to go on a wine-tasting tour in the Napa Valley.
Overnight – Parc 55 or Hilton Union Square
Leave the beautiful city of San Francisco behind and drive to the Monterey Peninsula, which is known for its magnificent homes and lovely beaches. You can visit Monterey’s Fisherman’s Wharf and Cannery Row and then tour the charming town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, which is dotted with quaint houses, upscale galleries and boutique stores. The day doesn’t end here, though, as your coach drives through Paso Robles which is home to some fine wineries. You'll spend the night on the Central Coast.
Overnight – Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Santa Maria or Radisson Santa Monica
Continue south today through the Santa Ynez valley and into Santa Barbara, where you'll be greeted with palm-lined walkways and white-sand beaches. The coach then makes its way back to Los Angeles, where a tour takes you to Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the Century City, before going back out to the coast. You can also enjoy an optional lunch on Santa Monica Pier.
