Uga Bay’s location is what makes it so special – it’s set on the three-kilometre stretch of private shoreline that makes up Pasikuda Beach. Renowned as one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka, Pasikuda has pristine white sands and gently swaying palm trees. The water is calm and perfect for sailing, and you can also see the delicate coral reef that sustains a host of local marine life. The nearest airport is Batticaloa, which is a scenic 40-minute drive past verdant green space on one side, and the ocean on the other.
When you’re on holiday to enjoy some time away from everyday life, Uga Bay offers a buffet of laidback activities. Visit Batticaloa Lagoon to get back to nature – you can watch locals shrimp farming or harvesting rice and coconuts. Back at the resort, there’s a range of tours to choose from, including a trip to Minneriya National Park, whale and dolphin-watching, or a nature bike ride. Meanwhile, the spa offers treatments like soothing aromatherapy massages and sea salt body wraps.
Uga Bay is also a fantastic choice if you want to stay busy during your time away. Watersports are top of the list, and you can enjoy a sailing trip along the coast to take in the breathtaking views and vivid sunsets. Try scuba diving or snorkelling to swim beneath the surface and discover the thriving coral reef, or get your adrenaline flowing as you jet-ski over the calm water. To keep up with your workout regime, head to the gym, which is fitted with cardio and weight facilities.
The resort’s restaurant looks onto the infinity pool and out towards the Indian Ocean. Keeping old traditions alive, the restaurant supports local fishermen and specialises in freshly caught seafood.
As well as the restaurant, you can also choose to enjoy a barbecue on the beach, with furniture carved entirely out of sand, or order a private dining experience direct to your terrace or balcony.
Accommodation at Uga Bay is contemporary and bright, with large windows that look out towards the outdoor pool and beyond to the Indian Ocean. You can expect a four-poster bed, a furnished balcony and quirky decor that brings color to studios and living areas. The resort is shielded by palm trees and tropical plants, bringing an air of seclusion to each suite or villa.
