There are not one, but two pools at Aga Reef Resort – plus a sheltered rock pool which gives you plenty of places to choose to relax. And, since this place has a small number of rooms and villas, the pools will never feel busy, so you can truly enjoy some peace and quiet. The infinity pool is right by the restaurant and bar, while the island pool and rock pool can be found on Meti’s Island, accessible via the bridge. And you can unwind further with a traditional Samoan ‘Fofo’ – a therapeutic form of massage with coconut oil – at the hotel spa.
On your holiday, you can really immerse yourself in the Samoan culture, thanks to the resort’s Fia Fia nights. Enjoy a sumptuous buffet dinner and try food cooked in an ‘umu’ – a pit of hot rocks, where food is placed and covered with banana leaves to bake. The evening will also be filled with song and dance, to give you a real feel for the islands’ festivities. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Aga Reef Resort also offers cultural demonstrations where you can learn about basket weaving, how to open a coconut, and hear stories about Samoan myths and legends.
After a few days of relaxation, it’s time to head out on the water and discover the marine life. Hop in one of the resort’s kayaks and explore the lagoon and nearby coastline, where you might even be lucky enough to spot the two resident turtles. If you don a snorkel, you’ll find a plethora of fish and coral right on your doorstep, within the sheltered tropical aquarium that is Lupe’s Lagoon. You can also hire bikes and cycle the picturesque three-kilometre trip to Lalomanu Beach – why not take a picnic and make a day of it? Or, if cycling isn’t your thing, simply catch the shuttle bus to the beach.
Offering a first-class menu featuring quality ingredients, this restaurant serves up island favourites and international dishes. Dine al fresco with fabulous sea views or grab a table inside.
With a wide range of cocktails, local beers and international wines, this is the place to enjoy a cold drink on the deck by the pool. Stop by at 5pm for the daily happy hour, when you can also watch the sunset.
Aga Reef Resort is a four-star boutique hotel with a mix of stylish villas and comfy hotel rooms, each featuring contemporary design, air-conditioning, and views of the gardens or lagoon. If you’re after a truly luxurious stay, though, book the VIP Villa. This cut-above base is in a stunning spot at the edge of the resort – and it’s the only villa to have a private plunge pool.
