Hotel Overview

Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is an exclusive beach safari camp, with a barefoot twist. Nestled in the dunes of the Cape Range National Park near Exmouth, in Western Australia, each of these 15 luxury eco-tents offers views of the surrounding bush, the Indian Ocean and fringing Ningaloo Reef. Wake to the song of a butcher bird, the raucous squawks of a galah or the thump of a wallaby passing by. And, at night, you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves brushing the beach. Nature and sustainability are at the core of this camp – power is solar-generated, water usage is carefully managed, and native herb soaps and ecologically sound shampoos are provided.

Outback meets reef

Just off shore, UNESCO-listed Ningaloo Reef is home to an array of colourful fish, rays, turtles and corals. The activities at Sal Salis focus on the reef and the pristine natural surroundings, so you can go kayaking and snorkelling in the sea, and bird-spotting on guided walks through Cape Range National Park. All these activities are included, and carefully planned by the resort’s guides who will factor in the weather and the tide. For an extra fee, you can also swim with wild whale sharks – between April and July – and see humpback whales from August to October. Alternatively, kick back and relax in your tent’s hammock, laze on the beach, and paddle in the warm Indian Ocean waters.

Dining under the stars

Food at Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef is taken very seriously. The resident chef prepares a contemporary and delicious daily menu featuring seasonal, local produce and fresh seafood. The resort aims to support local farmers and wineries, and you’ll find excellent Western Australian wines on the menu. You’ll enjoy your meals with your fellow guests, served at the lodge or on the deck. In the mornings, you’ll receive a hot breakfast accompanied by fresh fruit, cereal, breads and pastries. Enjoy a bite to eat at lunchtime, before nibbling on canapés at sunset. But dinner is the real foodie highlight – feast on a three-course meal, carefully created and served under the stars.
