Where should you go in June?

City, beaches, rainforest – whatever you’re into, there’s somewhere hot that’s perfect for your June getaway. If you love urban jungles, consider a holiday to Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Home to some of the world’s most iconic metropolises and some truly gorgeous beaches, the UAE lets you combine an energetic city buzz with a traditional summer holiday. June is also a great time to visit beach destinations in Southeast Asia, when the whole region basks in summer sun. Far Eastern gems are also at their best at this time of year, with temperatures in the mid-to-high thirties. You can dine alfresco on a warm Tokyo evening, enjoy rooftop cocktails in Shanghai, or drink craft beer in Beijing’s hutongs. Or, for somewhere a little cooler, try Central America. This corner of the globe offers endless natural beauty, tropical beaches and exotic wildlife.

Hot Destinations in June

The Far East

The Far East is a fascinating medley of ancient civilisations, stunning natural attractions and some of the world’s most exciting cities. And, by June, it’s in the firm grasp of summer. So, if you want a cultural getaway somewhere hot, a holiday to China or Hong Kong could be the answer. China’s cities easily hit temperatures in the mid thirties in June – so you can explore historical sites and soak up some sun at the same time. From Beijing’s imposing Forbidden City to the soaring skyscrapers of Shanghai, there’s plenty to see in China. Or you could visit cosmopolitan Hong Kong, where daily temperatures hover around 30 degrees Celsius – although you should expect to see the occasional rain shower.

United Arab Emirates

When it comes to guaranteed sunshine, the UAE is as good as it gets. This part of the world basks in 40-degree heat throughout June, with virtually no rainfall. Both Abu Dhabi and Dubai are packed with traditional and modern attractions, while the top hotels boast private beaches – perfect for a cooling dip. And there are some truly jaw-dropping sights. You can visit the futuristic Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest building – on a trip to Dubai, or see the beautiful architecture of Abu Dhabi. If you need a break from the sizzling heat, why not head to the air-conditioned malls for a spot of retail therapy? Or, hardened sun worshippers could consider a holiday to Ras Al Khaimah. This lesser-known Emirate may be cheaper than its sisters, but the beaches and water parks are just as good.

Southeast Asia

If 40 degrees Celsius is too hot for you, try Southeast Asia. June is a fabulous time to visit this exotic region, with average highs of 33 degrees Celsius in countries like Thailand and Malaysia. June is also the last dry month in Southeast Asia, so you can spend your days relaxing on the beach. Or, you could explore megacities like Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur, with no need to worry about the tropical rains which begin to make themselves felt from mid-July. Both Thailand and Indonesia are sought-after beach destinations, with the large islands like Phuket and Bali being the top favourites. But Southeast Asia’s smaller isles – including Thailand’s Koh Samui and Indonesia’s Gili Islands – are also worth a visit. Prepare to be charmed by their unspoilt sands, authentic restaurants and welcoming locals.

Central America

Nestled between the USA and South America, Central America is a diverse region of rich jungles, sprawling sands and tropical wildlife. In June, daytime temperatures average 26 degrees Celsius, so it’s just right for travellers wanting a cooler summer break. At the top of the list is Costa Rica. The ‘Rich Coast’ has a well-deserved reputation for having a wonderfully varied landscape, with towering volcanoes, abundant flora and fauna, and breathtaking beaches – all just a short drive from the capital, San José. Further north, Mexico combines a Caribbean coastline with a rich cultural heritage and fascinating Mayan sites. So, if you want some history served with your sunshine, Mexico is a great option. And, of course, the food is among the best in the world. What better way to spend your holiday than tucking into tacos and tequila under the sun?
