Orlando Holidays

Orlando Florida holidays needn’t be spent in Orlando at all. Where else can you venture into Pandora – The World of Avatar, the Cinderella Castle of the Magic Kingdom and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter? There’s plenty of adult friendly stuff too like the shops of International Drive, recreational spaces around Florida’s uncountable lakes and some of the USA's (and the world's) best golf courses.

Holidays in Orlando

Walt Disney World’s right hand and poster boy Mickey Mouse has long been king of the castle in the Florida lowlands. Families with young children cram as many superhero rides, Harry Potter worlds and staged natural disasters in as humanly possible. Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land will open in time for Orlando holidays in 2018/2019. Travelbag’s Orlando deals range from the basic bread and board (all you’ll need if water parks and adventure worlds are top priority) to luxury resorts catering to every need. Spend some time away from the surreal Disney vision to discover the real Orlando. There are tranquil neighbourhoods with cute boutiques, art deco themed cafes and hiking and biking trails leading onto peaceful nature reserves and lakes. We lost count of Orlando golf courses at the 150 mark but golfers will love the flat lowlands of Florida’s Sun Belt.

Things to do in Orlando

Shop 'til you drop

As with rollercoasters, you’ll be spoilt for choice with Orlando shopping outlets. The Mall at Millennia, a short way from Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando, has the high end luxury brands. The Florida Mall is closer to Orlando International Airport, ideal if you have some spare dollars towards the end of your stay. It’s International Drive though that’s the catwalk where you can flick through Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren clothes racks in the Orlando International Premium Outlets. Take some time out of the crowds and saunter down Park Avenue in Winter Park, lined with trees and dotted with decent restaurants and bars to stop in. Little known Downtown Orlando has some cute neighbourhoods like Ivanhoe Village with its art and craft stores, antique outlets and art deco restaurants. Save paddle boarding on Lake Ivanhoe for after lunch.

Theme Parks and Water Parks

Trick you senses and hack into your imagination at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Florida. The helter-skelter and make-believe is the core of a family holiday in Orlando. Plunge white knuckled down roller coasters like The Incredible Hulk Coaster and carousel around movie themed rides like Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. Orlando water parks are the perfect antidote to the tropical Florida heat. Splash along the slides and water rides of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park or in Universal’s Volcano Bay. Once you’ve had your fill of adrenaline hits, spend a day learning about the history of space exploration at the Kennedy Space Center (check the rocket launch calendar before booking). Travelbag’s Orlando package deals are a fast track way to organising your trip, look out for deals that are inclusive of Disney World tickets and Universal Studios tickets.

Choose from a range of hotels

Hotels here are super well-equipped. We’re not just talking about the spas, swimming pools and restaurants, but kids clubs, designated child areas and free shuttle services to theme parks. Most Orlando hotels are close to the parks, like the Crown Plaza Orlando on Universal Boulevard. Before booking your Orlando hotel, consider how you'll get to the theme parks. The best hotels in Orlando are arguably those that come with express access or queue waivers. These tend to be the higher end, luxury accommodation options – like the Hard Rock Hotel, which includes complimentary Universal Express and one hour early admission to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Knowing which rides you want to visit means you can see which hotels will benefit you most.

Best Time to Visit Orlando

Orlando has a humid subtropical climate with two seasons; the hot and rainy (May – September) and the cool and dry (October – April). As far as theme parks go, crowds are largest from June to August, peaking again briefly over the Christmas period. Orlando hotel prices are high at this time. We advise you avoid school holidays at all costs. For milder weather and fewer crowds, the cool and dry season is the time –January/February or September/October. Cheap hotels in Orlando Florida are easier to find then too.

If you can’t avoid visiting in the summer months, planning is essential. Arrange hotels well in advance and pick those that offer kids eat for free arrangements or discounts on rides that top your list. Shop around for Orlando attraction tickets as retailers often offer discounts and all-inclusive deals that are much better value than buying direct.
