Alberta Ski Holidays

SKIING IN ALBERTA? SORTED.

Alberta has some pretty epic skiing and snowboarding opportunities, with six major ski resorts offering more than 530 runs. Alberta skiing holidays are best between November and May, during snow season – but, in 2021, Banff Sunshine Resort even opened for skiing in late June.  There’s nearly 10 metres of snow in Alberta every year so, in winter, you’re guaranteed fantastic conditions for skiing and snowboarding.

Alberta’s largest ski area – and the third-biggest in Canada – is Lake Louise Ski Resort, with 164 runs across 4,200 acres. Banff Sunshine Village and Marmot Basin in Jasper are two other popular ski resorts, both with runs for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. There are also three smaller resorts – Mount Norquay, Nakiska, and Castle Mountain Resort. What these petite areas lack in size, they more than make up for in great snow, fast runs and beautiful views.

As well as the incredible skiing in Alberta, you’ll find plenty of exciting activities and stunning views. The Banff Gondola will take you to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, where you’ll have spectacular views of six mountain ranges and the Bow Valley. There’s also a restaurant, where you’ll feel like you’re dining in the sky. Jasper has a similar gondola, the Jasper SkyTram. It’s the highest and longest guided aerial tramway in Canada, but it takes less than eight minutes to reach the summit.

Winter holidays to Alberta aren’t just about skiing and snowboarding, though. There’s lots to keep you occupied – you just might need to wrap up. Couples can unwind in Banff Upper Hot Springs, while families will love dogsledding and ice-skating. Adventurers can get stuck into ice-walks and snowmobiling, and everyone will enjoy tubing at Mt. Norguay, which has the longest tubing lanes in Alberta.

Alberta has so much to offer in winter – so why not speak to our Travel Specialists about planning a trip? You could also add on a few days in Calgary, and spend some time exploring the cities attractions.
