Family Holidays to Thailand

Southeast Asia, known to many as the backpacking capital of the world, is overflowing with beaches, culture and delicious food. But Thailand is the cream of the crop. With both natural beauty and impressive cities, it’s sure to take your breath away. A holiday to Thailand is a great way to ease your family into the excitement of travelling in this beautiful continent. As the prices of long-haul flights continue to drop, it’s becoming increasingly affordable to hop on a plane, head to Asia and start your adventure. This is especially true for Thailand, since the country is blessed with some of the most affordable luxury, family-friendly resorts in the world. It’s also really geared up for tourists, with arguably the best infrastructure in South East Asia, making it easy for you to explore. There are activities for children of all ages. Whether you want to take in the sights and sounds of Bangkok, relax on a sugary beach in Phuket, or gaze at the wonders of the White Temple in Chang Rai, there’s plenty to see. Whether you go for a fortnight or a month, you’ll never run out of things to do.

Why is Thailand great for Families?

Of all the countries in Southeast Asia, Thailand is the best choice for your family’s first trip to this exotic continent. There’s so much to see and do. A holiday to Thailand will amaze both children and parents, giving the whole family a taste of a very different culture. And yet, the sheer amount of English-speaking guides, locals and tours make travelling this wonderful country incredibly easy. Much of the planning can be done online ahead of time, helping you to get organised – particularly good if you’re travelling with toddlers or young children. So, once you arrive, all you need to do is relax, explore and eat. Wherever you go, you’ll be able to discover beautiful beaches, luxurious resorts and vibrant nature. Why not go on a trek into the jungle to see Thailand’s amazing scenery, or enjoy a hands-on experience in an elephant sanctuary? The options are endless. If you want to inspire a sense of wanderlust in your children, Thailand is the place to choose for your family holiday.

Things to do in Thailand

The Best Beaches

If you’re looking for a relaxing family holiday, Thailand is a great choice. With white beaches in every direction, it’s easy to enjoy two weeks of sunbathing, swimming and playing on the beach. You can spend some quality time with your family, in one of the world’s most stunning countries. But, where to stay? For jaw-dropping scenery and kid-friendly activities, head to Phuket. The largest and busiest of Thailand’s islands offers powdery beaches, water sports and top resorts – so it’s hardly surprising that it’s the country’s most popular beach destination. A slightly quieter option – with equally amazing beaches – is Krabi. With kayaking, snorkelling and boat trips to the famous Railay Beach, family holidays here are based around the water. But the options are endless – why not take a look at Koh Samui, Ko Change or Hua Hin?

The Mighty Jungle

It’s not all about the beaches – Thailand also has some incredible rainforests. Exploring the luscious jungles is a must. There are loads of forest parks, national parks and waterfalls for you to discover. If you’re looking for truly untouched nature, Khao Sok National Park should be at the top of your list. This beautiful area is believed to be even older than the Amazon rainforest. Go hiking in search of monkeys and elephants, or swim in the deep, bath-warm lake. Meanwhile, Mae Wang National Park is the most famous in the country. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, then a trip to the top of Thailand’s highest peak will reward you with breathtaking panoramic views. Alternatively, you could go to Khao Yai National Park to see gibbons and tumbling waterfalls.

City Slickers

Thailand has some of the busiest and most exciting cities in all of South East Asia. They can be a little full-on and crowded though, so if you’re travelling with young children, some of the smaller beach towns may be a better choice. But if your family really does want the full Thailand experience, a couple of days in Bangkok will round off your adventure nicely. You can expect amazing food, fascinating markets and fabulous hotels – but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Kids will love the thrill of a tuk-tuk ride through the city, taking in the sights at the Ancient Siam museum, and riding on a paddleboat in Bangkok's largest park.
