Family Holidays to Dubai & the Middle East

With jaw-dropping buildings, theme parks and glorious resorts, the Middle East is not your average holiday destination. Whichever Emirate you choose, you can expect fantastic family-friendly resorts, private beaches made for playing, and an impressive list of activities. In Dubai, for instance, you can take your teenagers shopping in the planet’s biggest mall, and go up to the top of the world-famous Burj Khalifa. Or opt for Abu Dhabi, where the kids can meet their favourites characters at Warner Bros. World and ride the rollercoasters at Ferrari World. Or, why not combine beach time with desert safaris in Ras Al Khaimah? There’s so much to do. And, when it comes to family dining, you have plenty of choice. Even the fussiest little eaters will be catered for here, as the food scene boasts a huge selection of flavours, round-the-world cuisines and luxury options.

Why is the Middle East great for Families?

When people think about the UAE, they often picture a glittering metropolis, designed for business. But it’s so much more. The Middle East has some of the best family resorts in the world. And, when you scratch the surface, you’ll soon discover just how many of the attractions are designed for children. In Dubai, for instance, kids will be amazed by the sheer scale of everything, from the world’s biggest sweet shop to the largest indoor ski slope. Over in Abu Dhabi, meanwhile, you can zoom down water slides all day, before heading to the desert on a 4x4 safari. If you fancy somewhere quieter, try Ras Al Khaimah. This lesser-known Emirate offers a cheaper alternative to its sisters, with just as many attractions. Beaches, water parks and go-karting are all on the agenda here.

Reasons to choose the Middle East

Year-round Sunshine

The UAE has so much to offer for families, but there’s one more factor that’s the cherry on top of the cake – the weather. The Middle East is sunny all year round so, whenever you go, you can look forward to blue skies and toasty temperatures. From October to March, you’ll see temperatures hovering in the high twenties. While the UK winters are cold and grey, Dubai and its fellow Emirates have eight hours of sunshine every day and – something virtually unheard of back home – virtually no rain. The summer months are extremely hot, with temperatures regularly reaching 40 degrees Celsius. Everywhere is air-conditioned, but it’s worth bearing these temperatures in mind if you’re travelling with very young children. Hardened sun-seekers will have plenty of places to catch some rays, with amazing resorts, private beaches and incredible swimming pools.

Attractions for Thrill-seekers

For families looking for that extra level of fun and excitement, the Middle East is a great choice. Where else can you zoom down a water slide through a shark tank? Take a closer look at this underwater world at Dubai’s Lost Chambers Aquarium, or head to Dubai Parks and Resorts for an action-packed day out. Abu Dhabi also has its fair share of thrills, with theme parks and water parks the whole family will love. There’s a trampoline park for little ones too. But, if you’re a real bunch of adrenaline junkies, check out Ras Al Khaimah. This beach-lined Emirate is home to the world’s longest zip-line. It’s the equivalent of 28 football pitches. And, of course, each Emirate has access to sweeping desert dunes, which were practically made for sand-boarding and quad biking.

See a Different Side

Although Dubai is famous for its cloud-brushing buildings, modern spectacles and adventure parks, there is another side to the City of Superlatives. For a different experience of Dubai, head to one of the traditional souks, where traders sell their incredible wares. Kids – and adults, for that matter – will love the colourful fabrics, pyramids of spices and exotic souvenirs. Oman, meanwhile, has maintained all the charm of old-world Arabia. Packed with beautiful architecture and amazing wildlife, this traditional spot offers a different take on the UAE. You can learn about local culture, see grand mosques, and watch wild turtles hatch on the beach. It’s the perfect choice for your first family foray into the Middle East.
