The most iconic of all Thailand destinations, Phuket is a place of pristine beauty where a tropical coastline plays host to exhilaration and relaxation. It is an island near the neighbouring Krabi and Phang Nga provinces and boasts the title of the ‘pearl of the Andaman’.
When packing, it is best to stick to casual clothing as this is accepted everywhere and it is too warm for much else. Men and women alike can stroll up and down the beach in tank tops, shorts and t-shirts all day. Then, in the evening you can put some light fabric pants and maybe a long shirt on to relax, whilst also keeping the mosquitos at bay.
Do remember that for any religious trips you will need knee-length bottoms and a top that covers your shoulders.
Aside from this, don’t forget things like suncream and insect repellent while a small bag for day trips will be handy for carrying anything from a bottle of water to a poncho! If you are going out in the evening then wear something a little smarter but always go for comfort first. High heels can stay at home.
Warm temperatures grace Phuket throughout the year thanks to the tropical monsoon climate that the island is afforded. There are, though, three main seasons to look out for when planning a trip here.
The monsoon season between May and October are when the prices are lower and beaches quieter. This is because temperatures hit the late 20s and this, coupled with the high humidity, can make the days and evenings uncomfortable. It is wet at this time of year but downpours tend to be brief and followed by sunshine.
November through February sees the cooler weather come in with the dry season. As the winds reverse, both the humidity and temperatures drop to a more comfortable level and the crowds gather. This is then followed by the hot season where high humidity and high temperatures make for an uncomfortable time of the year between March and May.
