All-inclusive Holidays to Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is one of the largest nations in the Caribbean. It shares the island of Hispaniola with its neighbour, Haiti, with the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. The Dominican Republic is flanked by hundreds of miles of glorious coastline – if you love beaches, this place should be on your list. Going all-inclusive is the best way to experience the Dominican Republic, making your adventure as easy-going and enjoyable as possible. The island’s many luxury resorts all have their own flair, with some suited to families travelling with children, while others are perfect for couples seeking a romantic getaway. While the beaches are undoubtedly the main attraction, there's an array of things to do if you get itchy feet. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the historic buildings and museums of the colonial-inspired capital, Santo Domingo. Or, get your adrenaline pumping with some action-packed water sports and incredible scuba diving. Shopping is also a relaxing pastime in the Dominican Republic, and an afternoon exploring the boutiques and markets is a great way to see the country’s authentic side.

Why Choose an All-inclusive Holiday to the Dominican Republic?

With its 250 miles of stunning coastline, the Dominican Republic is the perfect place to relax. With an all-inclusive holiday package, your food and drink is covered – all you need to do is work your way through the hotel menus, or unwind on your resort’s private beach. The Dominican Republic is a tremendous place for both families travelling with kids, and couples seeking an all-inclusive holiday for two. The country’s main draw is the fabulous beaches but, being one of the largest islands in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic has a range of attractions. Spend the afternoon wandering the ancient streets of the capital Santo Domingo, or head inland on a wildlife safari. The joy of an all-inclusive trip is the choice of doing everything, or simply doing nothing at all. If you like, you can spend your entire holiday lounging by the pool, cocktail in hand. Once you've booked your trip, all you need to do is take advantage of the paid-for food, drinks and activities, and explore the island without any stress.

Things to do in Dominican Republic

The Cultural City of Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo is considered to be the first European-style city in the New World. It was founded by the brother of the famed explorer Chris Columbus. Today, it has a fantastic cultural heritage and has retained much of its authentic charm. The Colonial Zone is packed with attractions such as the Ozama Fortress and the stunning cathedral – all constructed in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Plaza de la Cultura is a complex boasting five museums and the national theatre. For the best boutiques and cafes, head to the upmarket neighbourhoods of Piantini and Naco. You can see all the highlights of Santo Domingo on a tour arranged by your all-inclusive resort, or explore the capital independently. Luxury hotels can assist with arranging your transport – sometimes, it’s even included in the price.

Exploring the Dominican Republic

If you've had your fill of sunbathing, then an off-road safari is a wonderful way to see the Dominican Republic’s wild side. You can walk through sugar plantations and rainforests, spotting wildlife as you go. On the beaches, water sports are everywhere – you can try everything from scuba diving to sailing. It’s a great way to discover the array of marine life which lives in the warm, Caribbean Sea. Various water activities are available all across the island and many of the beach resorts even have their own facilities. If you’re into golf, Playa Dorada is home to a fantastic 18-hole course and, while it’s one of many, it’s considered one of the best on the island. The course is peppered with ancient mahogany trees and palms – a wonderful setting for a relaxed round of golf.

Shopping Galore

A lot of the Dominican Republic’s resorts have an on-site shop selling books, clothes and souvenirs. But there are also numerous shopping locales. Santo Domingo and Punta Cana are at the centre of the action, with the biggest variety of shops. Punta Cana is the best place to go if you want to pick up some local crafts – the large market of Plaza Bavaro has around 50 outlets to explore. And shopping in the capital is a diverse affair.. The Acropolis Centre and Americana Departamentos are the two main malls, but a wander through the city’s historic zones will offer up quirky, lesser-known brands. If you want to by a locally-produced souvenir to take bake home, then wooden carvings, rum and Mama Juana are the best options.
