All-inclusive Holidays in Antigua

Antigua is part of the Leeward Islands, where the Caribbean Sea brushes against the Atlantic Ocean. This stunning island is one half of Antigua and Barbuda – its sister isle is anchored just 60 kilometres northwards. Needless to say, the tropical climate here is a tale of contrasts. The best time to go to Antigua is between March and June, when you can look forward to temperatures regularly reaching the high twenties, and minimal rain. The second half of the year is mostly taken up by the wet season – so if you want a great-value all-inclusive deal to Antigua, this is the time to go. Whenever you travel to Antigua, though, you’ll be amazed by the island’s natural beauty. There’s also a distinct British-meets-Caribbean vibe – expect to see historical forts, English-influenced cities and delicious dishes, where sweet and spicy flavours come together.

Why Choose an All-inclusive Holiday to Antigua?

Antigua’s all-inclusive resorts are the perfect starting point for discovering the very best of the island. You won’t have to hunt down the best restaurants or track down the best-value excursions – when you go all-inclusive, everything is part of the deal. Your food, drink and activities are all covered – which is especially important when your holiday revolves around the beach. It’s unsurprising, then, that all the luxury resorts in Antigua boast waterside postcodes. You can go swimming in the sea straight after breakfast, pop back to your hotel for lunch, then enjoy an afternoon of sunbathing. Or you could sign up for a relaxing activity in your resort, like yoga, a cooking class or a massage in the spa. Once you've booked your all-inclusive package, you can relax, knowing that all the essentials are already paid for. When you arrive, all you need to do is try the cocktails, tuck into delicious Caribbean food, and soak up some tropical rays.

Things to do in Antigua

Visit English Harbour

As the name suggests, English Harbour is a living reminder of Antigua’s colonial history. Filled with time-stamped sites, this natural harbour is a must-see on your holiday to Antigua. You can visit the ancient Fort George and Fort Berkley, whose walls and canons are still visible today. Shirley Heights is another place to add to your list. This restored military complex has plenty to see – the highlight is The Lookout. Perched on the southernmost tip of the island, this 500-foot-high tower has panoramic views across English Harbour. To see Shirley Heights at its finest, visit on a Sunday afternoon. From 4pm until 10pm, the complex comes alive with local bands, smokey barbecues and a party vibe. And you’ll be in a great spot to see a stunning Caribbean sunset.

Go Beach-hopping

For such a small spec of land, Antigua has more than its fair share of beaches. On the south coast, Pigeon Point Beach is our top pick for families. With shallow waters and gently-sloping sands, this paddle-friendly spot was practically designed for toddlers. But the most popular beach in Antigua is probably Dickenson Bay – and it’s easy to see why. With classically-Caribbean good looks and a mile of powdery sands, this place has water sports and bars to keep both children and adults entertained. At the other end of the spectrum, Half Moon Bay is blissfully quiet. Its pink-and-white sands are protected by a reef, so the waters are great for swimming. This tranquil spot has a tucked-away feel, so you won’t find any cafes. Ask your all-inclusive resort if they can make you a packed lunch to take as a picnic.

Spend a day in Barbuda

Barbuda, the often-forgotten little sister, is just 90 minutes away from Antigua. You can take a boat trip over there for the day, where you’ll be greeted by one of the most untouched islands in the Caribbean. The stunning pink beaches are just the tip of the iceberg. You can expect to see wonderful wildlife, including iguanas, crabs and the pink-breasted frigatebird. You could simply spend your day unwinding on one of Barbuda’s beaches but, if you want to explore, Two Foot Bay is a must-see. Home to some truly huge caves, Two Foot Bay is a fascinating place to spend an afternoon. To make sure you don’t get lost in the gigantic limestone caverns, it’s best to take a walking tour – keep your eyes peeled for bats.
