Day 1: Darwin - Kakadu National Park
Collect your 4WD vehicle and travel towards Kakadu, a land of dramatic scenery and prolific wildlife. Kakadu is Australia's largest national park, its vast wetlands and escarpments home to diverse bird populations.
Standard: Aurora Kakadu (incl. breakfast). Superior: Gagudju Crocodile Holiday Inn
Day 2: Kakadu National Park
This morning, you are booked on a leisurely 90-minute Yellow Waters Cruise that allows you to experience the majesty of this wetlands area and its abundant wildlife. Keep an eye out for saltwater crocodiles as they bask on the muddy shores, and admire the floating waterlilies. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore highlights such as the superbly-preserved Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr, the Bowali Visitor Centre and the Nourlangie Rock art site, or to visit beautiful Jim Jim Falls.
Day 3: Kakadu - Katherine
Call into the Warradjan Cultural Centre for an Aboriginal perspective on the region before heading south out of the park on the Kakadu Highway. At Pine Creek, rejoin the Stuart Highway and continue on to Katherine.
Standard & Superior: All Seasons Katherine (incl. breakfast)
Day 4: Katherine
Katherine is your gateway to Nitmiluk National Park, home to 13 dramatic river gorges sculpted from sandstone by the Katherine River. This morning, you are booked on a two-hour cruise that will take you through two of the most spectacular gorges. Admire the sheer sandstone cliffs, take a swim in the cool, clear waters, and later perhaps even join a canoeing adventure as you paddle your way along through the maze of waterways.
Day 5: Katherine - Darwin
Today take the Stuart Highway back to Darwin. Perhaps stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, memorial to the Japanese bombardment of 1942 and at Litchfield National Park to explore the spectacular scenery of monsoonal rainforests and spring-fed streams. Picturesque Florence Falls and the giant magnetic termite mounds are well worth a look, or you may just discover a shady little waterhole perfect for a refreshing dip.
Standard: Travelodge Mirambeena; Superior: Mantra on the Esplanade
Day 6: Darwin
Your tour concludes today. Ensure you return your car by the same time it was collected on day one so as to avoid any additional charges.
