It goes without saying that a safari is sure to be the highlight of any Kenya tour. You’ll have the opportunity to see the ‘Big Five’ – lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant – as well as cheetahs, giraffes, hippos and zebra. Kenya is also home to more than 1,100 species of bird, so twitchers will be in their element.

In the world-famous Masai Mara, you can embark on thrilling game drives with expert guides, as you search for big cats and gentle grazers. Between July and October, you’ll even be able to witness the Great Migration, when two million wildebeest, gazelle and zebra make the journey from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara.

Many tours also include some time in Amboseli National Park, as this is the best place to see herds of elephants. Elsewhere, Lake Nakuru is celebrated for its flamingos, Rothschild’s giraffes and endangered black rhinos.

In Kenya, temperatures range between 20°C and 30°C throughout the year – but some months are better than others. It’s best to book your Kenya tour for the dry season, which runs from July to October. This is the ideal time to see the country’s wildlife, as the animals are easier to spot. The annual Great Migration also begins in July so, in summer, you’ll be able to see up to two million of wildebeest and gazelle grazing on the plains.

If you’d prefer to avoid the crowds, December to February makes a great alternative to peak season. You can expect mild temperatures around 25°C, and you’ll still see plenty of animals.

March to May sees a lot of rain, which can make travel difficult. There’s also a second, short wet season between October and November, but these downfalls tend to be quick and less frequent
