Winter Escapes – Dubai Part 2

If you want to go somewhere with the wow factor, then Dubai is definitely the place! It’s an amazing city and is the perfect destination for your winter holiday. In Part 1 of this guide we suggested places that you could visit all year round but in Part 2 we hope to give you a taste of some of the wonderful events you can enjoy if you holiday in Dubai in December, January or February.

Events for the family

If you’re holidaying with children, then you should go to see the Above and Beyond flight simulator show at Children's City, Creek Side Park. The show is running until the 12th December and it’ll make you feel like you’re really flying in outer space. One evening you could enjoy a free outdoor movie screening of a family movie, thanks to JLT Outdoor Cinema. Simply head down to JLT Park between the O and P clusters, for 5pm with some snacks and a blanket on the following dates:

4th December – To watch A Mouse Tale

18th December – To watch Saving Santa

19th December – To watch Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

It’s on at the Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre on the 11th and 12th of December. It’s suitable for both adults and children.

Shop ‘til you drop

If you love to shop, then you’ll really like the Dubai Shopping Festival 2016 which runs from the 1st January to the 1st February. It’s the biggest event of its kind in the world and sees thousands of stores offering great discounts, lots of raffles and competitions to win big items like cars and electronics, fashion shows, firework displays and world record attempts.

Cultural events

Love photography and art? There’s a special photography exhibition by Denis Dailleux you might want to check out. Through his photographs, Denis will take you on a journey of discovery through Egypt. This mesmerising exhibition is free and runs until the 31st December. It’s being held at the Gulf Photo Plus, Alserkal Avenue. There’s also the Quoz Arts Fest 2016 to go to. It runs from the 22nd – 23rd January and showcases local artists work and gives you an opportunity to purchase some prints to take home with you.

Russian pianist Vazgen Vartanian is performing at the One & Only Royal Mirage on the 12th December which is bound to be a sell-out so please book your tickets early if you don’t want to miss out on hearing him play. If you prefer films over music, then you might want to go to a seminar or special screening at the Dubai International Film Festival 2015. This is one of Dubai’s biggest events and sees a whole host of stars from the region descend on Dubai. It takes place from 9th – 16th December at venues across the city.
