Long Haul Holiday Report 2017

Long Haul Holiday Report 2017

by Travelbag on 20 September 2017, 10:09AM

The results are in for the annual Post Office Travel Money’s 2017 Long Haul Holiday Report, and though it seems some holiday destinations have increased in cost, due to local price drops at restaurants, bars and shopping outlets, travellers will be able to save in up to 40% of the world’s most incredible long haul holiday destinations.

This year’s report has seen some exciting changes from previous years, with several newcomers hitting the top 10 best value list and high-ranking destinations being overtaken for the very first time. This opens up all new opportunities for those holiday-goers who have always wanted to visit certain far-off lands but never had the chance.

To celebrate these findings, we’ve not only highlighted a few of the best value holiday destinations, we’ve also managed to put together some spectacular deals so you can discover these amazing long haul havens at a great, affordable price.

Tokyo

For the first time ever, Tokyo has managed to secure the top spot as the cheapest long haul destination for 2017. With prices in the Japanese capital up to 23% lower than the previous year and less than a third of that in Rio (this year’s most expensive location), it’s easy to see how this magnificent metropolis has been able to come out on top against all other destinations.

  • Tokyo: 5 nights from £979pp including return Cathay Pacific flights from London Heathrow and room only accommodation at the 5* Hyatt Regency. Valid for bookings made by 5th Oct for travel during Feb 2018.

Japan

Tokyo’s aforementioned rise to the top of the cheapest long haul destinations means visiting some of Japan’s other locations has become even more enticing than before. Why settle for one destination when you can spend some time sampling the renowned street food of Osaka or visiting the ancient shrines and temples of Kyoto without having to break the bank.

  • Japan: 8 nights from £1,149pp including return Cathay Pacific flights from London Heathrow and room only accommodation, including 4 nights in Tokyo at the 5* Hyatt Regency, 2 nights in Kyoto at the 3* New Miyako Hotel and 2 nights in Osaka at the 5* Hyatt Regency. Valid for bookings made by 5th Oct for travel during Feb 2018.

Jamaica

A number of the Caribbean’s most incredible islands have found themselves among the list of long haul destinations with some of the biggest reported price drops. Over the past 12 months the island of Jamaica has seen significant decreases in local prices, meaning that UK visitors are estimated to save 24% more than a year ago when visiting this tropical island nation.

  • Jamaica: 7 nights All Inclusive at the 5* Moon Palace costs from £1,489pp and includes return Virgin Atlantic flights from London Gatwick with free transfers, saving up to £600 per couple. Valid for bookings made by 20th Sep for travel between the 1st and 30th October 2017.

St. Lucia

As with Jamaica, St. Lucia is also one of the Caribbean islands to have undergone a significant price drop, with UK visitors receiving similar saving estimates at 25% more than 2016. Enjoy the sights of the marina, relax on the beach or immerse yourself in the vibrant nightlife of Rodney Bay on the unforgettable and affordable holiday of a lifetime.

  • St Lucia: 7 nights All Inclusive at the 4* St James’s Club Morgan Bay costs from £999pp and includes return Virgin Atlantic flights from London Gatwick, saving up to £950 per couple. Valid for bookings made by 20th Sep for travel until 15th Oct 2017.
