5 Dubai Rooftop Bars

by Travelbag on 14 November 2017, 10:11AM

Make sure you see the desert city and its ‘scraperscape’ from somewhere with a view on your holiday to Dubai. Seeing the skyline against its sandy backdrop, or the pleasing symmetry of Palm Jumeirah from a bird’s eye view is, at the least, an astonishing reminder that the desert city was once just that – a desert.

Watch the sun back light the dusty arid air over the Arabian Gulf with a cocktail in hand. It's a remedy confidently prescribed by us, for those who are:

- desperately trying to rally after a day’s shopping in souks and malls for a night on the town

- looking for romantic date inspiration and those looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion

If it’s your first time touring Duabi, take a look at our three day itinerary in our Dubai and Abu Dhabi diaries article or read on to discover five rooftop bars worth visiting during your stay.

Tomo at Raffles Hotel – Best Skylive View

This Japanese restaurant in the old town takes its name from the Japanese word for, ‘old friend’. Expect sleek Japanese design befitting of the up market Raffles Hotel with view of the skyline. Tomo’s food menu is a little over extended to say the least – best to order a cocktail and maybe something small from the appetizers to nibble on as the sun sets.

Where: Raffles Hotel, 31348
Opening hours: Monday and Wednesday 5pm – 1am, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 5pm – 2am, closed Sundays.

Pure Sky Lounge at the Hilton - Palm Jumeirah Views

Pure Sky Lounge is on the 35th floor of the Hilton Hotel and Resort. The bow shape to the Lounge, sail like sun shades and baby blue and white rattan furniture falls somewhat short of creating a ‘sky ship’ vibe. But the views over the Arabian Gulf that feature t Palm Jumeirah always impress. There’s an open air barbecue, mixology master classes and a fusion menu of Asian and western influences.

Where: The Walk, Level 35
Opening hours: 5pm – 2am

Shades at the Address Dubai Marina – Infinity Pool

You don’t have to have a skyscraper to have a rooftop bar. But way down on floor number four, Shades not only has a rooftop bar but a view of the surrounding skyline: reflected in the water of its infinity pool. It’s not all for show – the pool is a decent size and big enough for swimming. Gaze down to the nearby marina before kicking back on a sun lounger to plot your travels when you have your own private yacht.

Where: Level 4, Dubai Marina
Opening hours: 9am – 1am

Mosaic Pool & Lounge, Sofitel Dubai Downtown – best for New Year fireworks

If you like to ring in the New Year with over the top celebrations, Dubai is the place to go. There are pyrotechnic rivalries all over town as establishments seek to outdo local competition. Dubai as a city has thrown record breaking parties centred on the Burj Khalifa since it was completed in 2004. From Hotel Sofitel you’ll get the best views of the 830 metre tower that unloads ludrirous dollars worth of fireworks on the 31st.

Where: Sheikh Zayed Road, Downtown Dubai
Opening hours: 8am – 8pm

Skyview Bar, Burj al Arab – to see and be seen

Sometimes it’s cool to be among the cool crowd.  Skyview is where the rich and famous like to hang out, so reservations are the norm. The only drawback is that you won't get a look at the iconic Burj al Arab … because that's where Skyview is located.  The floor-to-ceiling windows make the most of the view.

Where: 27th floor, Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah Beach Road
Opening hours: drinks are served from 7pm – 2am, see website for restaurant times
