5 Alternative Things To Do In Las Vegas

by Travelbag on 27 September 2016, 14:09PM

So you’re planning a holiday to Las Vegas? We don’t blame you. The City of Sin is one of the most exciting destinations on earth. Step aside Hollywood; Nevada is where the real stars go! Las Vegas is of course home to the world’s most famous casinos, from the MGM Grand to the Bellagio.

But blackjack and slot machines aren’t the only things going on in Vegas. The city, and the wider state, boasts a range of spectacular activities and attractions.

Looking for things to do in Las Vegas? Look no further, we’ve listed our five favourite attractions that don’t involve a roulette table and a deck of cards...

1. See a live Las Vegas show at one of the city’s iconic venues

Planet Hollywood

The Rat Pack’s legacy still lives on; Sinatra may no longer be with us, but there are still plenty of world-famous performers to see in Las Vegas.

From Elvis tributes at Planet Hollywood to Mariah Carey at The Colosseum, the bright lights still attract the biggest names in music and showbiz.

Top tip: Looking for shows in Las Vegas? Get online for a full listing of events and book your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

2. Take a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon

A Grand Canyon helicopter tour is a must-do on all holidays to Las Vegas. The canyon was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 and is the USA’s 15th oldest national park. But all that will mean nothing when you’re cruising at altitude around this spectacular canyon – a true wonder of the natural world.

Top tip: Regular bus tours and shuttles run to and from Las Vegas to the Arizona park. We recommend a helicopter ride for the ultimate experience!

3. Ride everything at the Adventuredome Theme Park

Adventuredome Theme Park

You don’t have to set your soul on fire on the Las Vegas strip to have a good time. If you’ve not got the money to burn, or if you’re travelling with children, why not take them for a fun day at the Adventuredome Theme Park?

Situated within the Circus Circus complex, the fun park is jam-packed with exciting rides, rollercoasters, attractions and fun games for visitors of all ages. When it comes to Las Vegas family holidays, the Adventuredome tops the list of our favourite activities.

4. Escape the city on a Death Valley Road Trip

Death Valley

Las Vegas holidays can be a whole lot of fun, but sometimes you just want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The Death Valley National Park is an expansive desert bordering both California and Nevada.

Death Valley is made up of salt-flats, sand dunes and dark red mountains, and is a sight to behold. The preserve is world-famous and is a must for all visitors.

Top tip: Tours from Las Vegas do operate but we recommend hiring a car and planning your own desert adventure.

Remember to take regular breaks and stay hydrated, as the desert has been known to reach beyond the high 30s in degrees Celsius. Believe us, it’s hot.

5. Plan a day of sightseeing

Bellagio

If there’s one thing we all love, it’s teasing our friends back home by uploading our holiday snaps to Facebook. Las Vegas is one big photo opportunity, with numerous famous landmarks and sights dotted around the city.

Take in everything from the enigmatic ‘Welcome To Las Vegas Nevada’ sign to the Paris Las Vegas Eiffel Tower. It’s also worth taking a stroll down the incredible Fremont Street Experience, if not for the casinos, for the breathtaking neon light shows.

Top tip: there are few Las Vegas sights more magnificent than the awe-inspiring Bellagio water fountain. Head here at night to see the fountain in all its glory.
