Asia: The Ultimate Foodie Getaway Guide

We have one more destination you can’t afford to miss if you’re a true food lover... Asia!

Asian flavours

Asian flavours - Bangkok floating food markets

The electrifying flavours of Asian cuisine are influenced by the several different regions, especially Southeast Asia. Each region is home to many cultures that have their own style of cooking. In the Eastern and Southern regions ingredients such as ginger, chillies and soy are used frequently. Curry is a popular dish in Southern, Southeastern and Western Asian cooking but is not so common in East Asian, as Szechuan cuisine (a Chengdu-style, e.g. hot-pot stew) is most popular. Most curry with origins from India and South Asia consists of a yogurt foundation, unlike Southeastern and Eastern curries that mainly use coconut milk as their base. Every dish is jam-packed with flavour and character, which is what makes Asian food so incredibly popular.

Lung King Heen - Central, Hong Kong

Hong Kong harbour

The exquisite Cantonese cuisine served at the Four Seasons Hotel, is the first Chinese restaurant in the world to receive three Michelin stars. Whilst you’re fine dining for lunch or dinner on the fourth floor, you can cherish the view of the Victoria Harbour…which we could do for hours! The chef recommends the Barbecued Suckling Pig that sounds divine, but we think you need to try the signature sell out steamed lobster and scallop dumplings before they go!

Chutneys- Colombo, Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka

You will be astounded at the dining experience you will receive at this 5-star Indian restaurant, from conscientious staff that give you a warm welcome to the price of the cuisine, it is a great way to taste the South Indian flavours…Its ideal for families too. Once you have selected one of the authentic fresh dishes, you can see your meal being cooked in the open kitchens. Chutneys have an impeccable reputation and their signature dish ‘cap dosa’, one of 30 types of dosa (paper-thin rice and lentil-flour pancakes) is just so good! They also offer an all-you-can eat vegetarian buffet on Tuesday nights. The famous Gangaramaya Temple (the beautiful image below) is just round the corner from the restaurant too.

Tamachart- Phuket, Thailand

Phuket, Thailand

Tamachart translates to ‘Natural’ in English and the atmosphere and experience truly is just that. From the beautiful hanging plants that drape down from the ceiling to the intricate fresh cuisine, it definitely is one of a kind. The personality of this restaurant is extraordinary; every corner you turn around you’ll witness a completely original and intriguing ornament or piece of décor…and we mean quirky! This being said every dish is appealing and flavourful. Each of the four dining rooms offers over 200+ Thai dishes to choose from- we recommend the crispy shrimp pancakes with plum sauce dip as an appetizer but make sure you leave plenty of room for the other hundreds of dishes on offer!
