5 places to celebrate the next 4th of July

by Travelbag on 04 July 2016, 14:07PM

America loves a good celebration, and July the 4th is one of America’s many spectacular celebrations. Not only do the Americans get to enjoy the patriotism of the holiday but also warm weather, BBQs, and fireworks. Sound like you're missing out? Well there is always July 4th 2017 to start planning for! Here are our top 5 places to celebrate and party in the USA.

Philadelphia, PA

Philadelphia downtown

Where better to start the 4th of July celebrations than in one of the former capitals of the United States, the same city where the Founding Fathers would meet during the wars, where the ‘Declaration of Independence’ was signed. Philadelphia boasts a week of celebrations, starting with free entry into the Benjamin Franklin museum and ending with a day of celebration on the Philadelphia Parkway.

Boston, MA

Boston downtown

When thinking of Boston and Independence Day you probably think of the Boston Tea Party, but since then there’s a new party and we Brits are allowed. 4th of July is a spectacular celebration made more special by a second pyrotechnic performance from the Boston Pops Orchestra using real cannon fire to perform Tchaikovsky’s 1812 last overture. Why not make the most of your American visit, and spend the week on a West Coast Cruise aboard Cunard's Queen Mary II, which docks in Boston for Independence Day.

Washington, D.C.

Washington's Lincoln Memorial

This may be the most fitting place to spend your 4th of July – the capital of the United States. Watch the fireworks as they burst over the Lincoln Memorial and are mirrored by Washington’s famous Reflecting Pool. The day celebration includes a massive patriotic parade along the fittingly named Constitution Way, followed by the largest free concert in the US, featuring an amazing performance by the National Symphony Orchestra.

New York City, NY

New York 4th July fireworks

4th of July in The Big Apple is probably the most visually stunning on the list. Go for a rooftop view of the firework display and watch as they light up the city sky around you. However, with 3 different displays, one in front of The Statue of Liberty, another on the East River, and a final one in Jersey City, you can find the perfect display for you whether that is on a blanket in Liberty Park, stood on the Brooklyn Bridge or sat on a rooftop.

Mount Rushmore, SD

Mount Rushmore

Perhaps the most sophisticated way to spend your 4th of July, out in the woods sitting with the four most famous US presidents, both in stone and in body with actors reliving the men’s great days. Luckily, for the phonophobic (fear of loud noises e.g. fireworks) amongst you, there is no firework display due to the surrounding national forest; however, there is still an illumination show right on the massive rock carvings as well as other performances.
