Bumper month of ‘lost’ work hours coming as Scots book holidays at their desk, take almost three hours to do it and don’t feel guilty, new research reveals

Over half of Scottish employees admit using their work time researching and booking holidays, and the majority (80%) do not feel guilty doing so, shocking new research has revealed.*

Two-thirds of Scottish workers are planning to book their holidays in January, leading to a bumper month of ‘lost’ work hours wasted on securing the next break away from the office., the tailor-made long-haul holiday specialist, surveyed 500 employed Scottish adults to ask about their holiday plans for 2016.

Of those planning to book their holidays during January, 20% booked their trip last weekend – January 2nd and 3rd – followed by a quarter who will book their holiday during their first week back at work.

The average time for booking a holiday, including research and payment, is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Travelbag’s spokesman Paul Hopkinson, says: “With so many people trying to overcome the post-Christmas blues, it’s no surprise January is one of the busiest periods for holiday bookings.

“But using time at the desk to daydream of the beach probably won’t go down well. Why not set aside some time at home, when you can make sure you’ll do proper research and won’t make any snap decisions while booking your holiday?”

Over a third of Scots believe booking holidays in January is cheaper (36%), while others use it as a way of overcoming winter blues (30%) and some feel it is a new tradition (13%).

The figures also show the peak months for going on holiday, with July in first place, followed by June, September, February and April.

Scottish employees were also asked how they fund their holidays. A whopping 68% save up for their trips, however 20% use their credit cards. A further 12% budget for holidays from their December wages.

*One Poll surveyed 2000 employed UK adults aged 18 and over, of whom 500 were Scottish residents. The research was carried out between 18th and 24th of December 2015.
