15 Destinations to Enjoy a Hot, Sunny January

by Travelbag on 01 December 2016, 14:12PM

January is one of the less common months for those of us in the UK to take a holiday. Most of our wallets are still recovering from the dual hit of Christmas and New Year’s Eve and in no state to book a holiday in January.

Smart shoppers can use this to their advantage however, as the lack of demand makes January a cheap month for travelling. What better way to get over the January blues than to spend them in one our favourite locations to soak up the early year’s sun?

Brazil is a country that is known for its festivities and sunshine. The temperature averages at 26°C, making it the perfect place to soak up the rays on white sands while drinking one of the country’s many signature cocktails, such as the Caipirinha. Travel slightly earlier to enjoy New Year’s Eve at one of Brazil’s famous beach parties.

The opposite end of the spectrum to Brazil is Sydney. Sydney has its share of beaches for you to top up your tan in the 23°C weather, such as Bondi Beach, but most of your trip will be dedicated to enjoying the city’s culture at various places like the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bay. The warm climate makes it a great place to explore in January.

Guatemala is another country that benefits from the January sun allowing you to explore the beautiful sites in the basking embrace of the sun. In this case the high teen/low twenty temperatures are perfect for exploring the small Latin American country’s Mayan ruins and picturesque scenery.

At 27°C Bangkok is at it’s peak during January. With it’s mix of traditional temples and modern conveniences, the Thai capital is great place to visit at this time of year. Spend the day exploring the temples in the bright sunshine and the evening enjoying a drink in Bangkok’s famous outdoor bars.

South Africa

South Africa may not be at its warmest in January, only averaging around 16°C, but the country has many other aspects that make the start of the year a particular highlight. The wildlife is coming out of hibernation, the local wine is at its freshest and the sun is still bright enough to enjoy a stroll along the beach.

Mauritius is a pure beach paradise experience. The year round tropical climate leads to an average temperature of 26°C, perfect for sitting back on the white sandy beaches and catching some sun by the crystal clear waters. Be sure to keep a look out for one of the many rocky coves near the water to enjoy the sun in some privacy.

Vietnam is a country that’s steeped in a colourful history. It’s location in South East Asia means that it enjoys a subtropical climate, meaning that it’s warm all year round.

We recommend checking out the capital of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, to take in some traditional Vietnamese culture and food in an incredibly warm 27°C temperature.

It is no secret that we here at Travelbag love Dubai! This futuristic city features a lot of indoor attractions and theme parks to enjoy indoors if you fancy a break from the gorgeous 24°C weather, or if you’re a heat seeker you could head out to the desert for a safari!

Barbados is one of those destinations that instantly springs to mind when you think of a tropical paradise, and at 23°C in January, it’s easy to see why! Holidays to Barbados are all about sitting on the pristine beaches, staring at the clear waters and enjoying fresh seafood and rum!

The beautiful state of Goa is an Indian paradise! The region is a tropical utopia that regularly sees temperatures of 25°C plus in January, despite this being the coldest month! The best ways to spend your time in Goa are on the beach and visiting the UNESCO listed Churches and Convents of Goa.

Los Angeles

The City of Angels may be a little at odds with some of the other destinations on this list, but Los Angeles, and the state of California as a whole, experience highs of 13°C in January. This may not be the warmest time to visit but this just means that there are less tourists. You can indulge in all of the legendary Hollywood without all the queues, and you still won’t need a big coat!

St. Lucia

The Caribbean island of St. Lucia has temperatures of around 26°C in January, making it a great time to visit the island for some sun and relaxation. What really makes St. Lucia stand out from some of the other island paradises listed so far is the truly remarkable diving scene!

Hawaii brings with it a distinct culture that most of us are familiar with. The Polynesian member of the USA is famous for its beaches, surf culture, rainforests and dormant volcanoes, all of which can enjoyed in the ideal January weather of 23°C. The island also boasts a collection of some topnotch five star resorts.

Cambodia is a true tourist highlight on the rise. The island was virtually unknown next to the neighbouring Thailand until fairly recently. Expect a lot of beaches, ancient temples and stunning landscapes to explore at your leisure in the 26°C January weather.

Cancun provides the perfect mixture of Caribbean Sea weather and Mexican culture. Enjoy spending your days on the white beaches, exploring the local archaeological sites or enjoying Mexican delicacies such as burritos and tequila, all in 23°C of glorious January sunshine!
