When’s the best time to visit the Caribbean

Intro1

If you long to jet off to somewhere tropical then the Caribbean is the ideal location. There are over 700 islands for you to choose from, each offering beautiful surroundings and luxurious hotels. Generally, early December and May are great times to visit the Caribbean, because the weather is good and you can get some good hotel deals. But, when you're considering which month to go, you need to think about weather, hurricane season and price. We've got all the answers, to help you pick the right time for you.

When does the Caribbean have the best weather?

Before you rush ahead and book your holiday, it’s important to consider what the weather will be like. Temperatures tend to stick to around 29°C to 31°C all year round but the sea breeze makes it seem cooler at times. From December to April is the best time to go if you want to enjoy sunshine in the daytime, low humidity and cool evenings. If you decide to visit in the summer months you should expect temperatures to be slightly higher and the odd shower. You will still have an amazing time – the showers will be brief and if anything, will help cool you down.

The Caribbean can be the ideal wedding and honeymoon destination, even in the summer months. Every year thousands of UK brides and grooms decide to tie the knot on popular Caribbean islands like Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic because they’re guaranteed sunshine on their big day. If you’d love to get married somewhere hot then the Caribbean could be the perfect location.

When is the Caribbean's hurricane season?

If you visit the Caribbean from June to November then you need to be aware that it’s officially hurricane season but this doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to enjoy yourself. Generally, the high-risk period is from mid-August to late September so if possible try to avoid this time. You can reduce your chances of being affected by visiting islands outside of the Hurricane Belt, islands like Aruba, Curacao, Belize, Margarita Island (part of Venezuela) and Trinidad and Tobago. When is it cheap to go to the Caribbean?

Price-wise, the most expensive time to visit the Caribbean is from mid-December to late April. Prices can be up to 50% more during these times. Flights can be expensive in school holidays so if you can travel outside of these times you could save yourself hundreds of pounds. Many people choose to holiday for two weeks rather than one because often it’s not that much extra to stay for the extra week.

If you stay during hurricane season then you’ll find that your hotel costs are lower but you may find that many restaurants and attractions are closed. This might be something that doesn’t concern you if you’re planning on spending most of your holiday on your resort.
