Planning your first holiday to the Maldives

by Travelbag on 23 October 2015, 13:10PM

Temperatures might be dropping in the UK but in the Maldives, the weather is tropical from November to April, making it the perfect location for a winter or spring holiday.

If you want to be able to relax and enjoy being pampered on your holiday then the Maldives is ideal as it offers a level of luxury that other holiday destinations simply can’t match. If you love sunbathing and taking things easy then it could well be your dream holiday destination.

Here at Travelbag, we offer amazing Maldives deals for every budget – whether you’re looking for something 3 star, 4 star or 5 star. Click here to see our current deals.

Intro1

Stay somewhere unique

The Maldives is a chain of twenty six atolls, made up of more than a thousand coral islands. There are over a 100 resort islands for you to pick from and they range from 150 metres across to 1½ miles across. You’ll spend the majority of your holiday on your resort island so it’s important that you choose the right one for you and your family.

We have so many great hotels and resorts in our range that you’ll be spoilt for choice. Why not stay in an over water villa at Vilamendhoo Island Resort & Spa? You’ll feel like a celebrity as you watch the sun go down each night on your private deck. Alternatively, why not stay in the Reethi Beach Resort, located in Baa Atoll and enjoy all the facilities on offer – there’s a fitness centre, dive centre and plenty of restaurants and bars for you to try. The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island has been voted the world’s best hotel twice so why don’t you stay there yourself to see how amazing it is? You could go swimming with whale sharks and try the resort’s underwater dining experience!

Intro2

Not every resort in the Maldives has a pool but with the Indian Ocean on your doorstep you mightn’t be overly concerned. If you really do want a pool then just double check in the hotel description before you book.

If you want some advice on where to stay, please call one of our friendly advisors on 0871 911 0016. They’ll be happy to help.

Getting out and about

Most holiday resorts do offer day excursions by boat so you can explore other islands. We’d recommend you make the trip to the capital Malé one day and maybe one or two of the fishing village islands. If you stay on a resort island close to Male then you should expect it to be a bit noisier than some of the other islands.

Intro3

If you take a trip on a seaplane, try and get a window seat so you can admire the view and take lots of photos as you fly over the different islands. The natural beauty of the Maldives will blow you away and you really should go diving if you possibly can as it’s a diver’s paradise!

Top Tips

If you are on a tight budget then you might want to opt for an all-inclusive deal. Buying food and drink outside of your resort can be expensive because the majority of food and drink in the Maldives has to be imported from Dubai. You should be aware that you can expect to pay in the region of 16% extra on top (service charge and government tax) whenever you buy anything during your stay that isn’t included in your holiday cost.

To combat this try, why not stay in a resort that doesn’t charge much extra for activities like water sports or snorkelling? If you’re sensible you should have any problems, simply take things like sun cream and toiletries with you. If you have a baby, don’t rely on buying nappies and wipes from your resort’s shop – just take enough to cover you for your stay.

Simply double checking how much things will cost you with the 16% extra added on before you sign any bill will stop you from getting any horrible surprises. You could always check your running total every few days at your hotel’s reception desk.

You’ll have an amazing holiday in the Maldives, it really is paradise. Why not share your favourite holiday snaps on our Facebook page?
