Visiting the Maldives over Christmas and New Year

by Travelbag on 05 November 2015, 09:11AM

If you want to escape the freezing temperatures of the UK this Christmas and New Year then why not jet off to the Maldives and enjoy the festive period in an exclusive resort?  The Maldives is the perfect place to enjoy a week or two away as you can take things easy and be pampered for a change. Why cook Christmas dinner yourself when you could have an award winning chef rustle up something spectacular.

Feel like a celebrity

David and Victoria Beckham are big fans of the Maldives and after enjoying Christmas in London they like to head to the Maldives with their children to ring in the New Year. Last year they were joined by their showbiz pals Gordon and Tana Ramsay at the One & Only Reethi Rah resort. It’s the perfect location for couples and families to enjoy a well-deserved break.

We offer package holidays to Reethi Rah so if you fancy following in the footsteps of football royalty you can. This luxury resort is located on the idyllic island of Baa Atoll and offers twelve stunning white sand beaches, a fitness centre and plenty of opportunities to try water sports if you’re feeling adventurous.

We can’t guarantee that you’ll bump into the Beckhams during your trip but you’ll have an amazing time regardless.

Ready to dance?

If you love to party then the Maldives is the place to be this New Year. There are plenty of dance and music shows to enjoy and there are events in the different restaurants and bars too. Last year, X Factor judge and Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and his model pal Alexa Chung rang in the New Year in the Maldives.

Footballer Fernando Torres and his family spent Christmas at the Anantara Kihavah Villas, a resort popular with fellow sports stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Roger Federer. Why don’t you check out the resort for yourself? It’s set on the beautiful Kihavah Huravalhi island and has four amazing restaurants, Sea, Fire, Salt and Sky. The award winning Sky restaurant offers an underwater dining experience which is truly unique.

Other celebrities to descend on the islands over Christmas and New Year 2014 included Pixie Geldof, Daisy Lowe, Michelle Williams and Rochelle and Marvin Hulmes.

Who will be staying on the islands this Christmas and New Year? It’s a bit of a mystery but there’s bound to be some repeat celebrity visitors. Celebrities love the islands because of how private they are, there’s little chance of the paparazzi snapping them as every resort is on its own island. Will there be celebrities staying in your resort? You’ll have to wait and see!

Need more ideas?

The Maldives is popular with tourists from all around the world over the Christmas and New Year period, but this is no surprise because it’s such a wonderful destination.  Although most resorts will be fully occupied during this time the islands won’t feel too crowded as there are plenty of private beaches and pools.

Each resort offers its own New Year’s Eve party or event but if you want a quiet night then this is possible, depending on where you stay. The Maldives has something for everyone.

Why not spend the afternoon in your resort’s spa and enjoy a facial before getting ready for dinner?  If you holiday in the Maldives you’ll be spoilt for choice as there are so many excellent spas, offering a wide range of treatments.  Alternatively you could go for a snorkel or dive in the lagoons – the Maldives has lots of great places to dive.  You’ll be blown away by the beautiful fish and sea creatures you spot. The New Year’s Eve Gala Dinnner on Jahaz beach is one party you won’t want to miss. You can enjoy amazing food as you dine on the beach and watch a wonderful fireworks display.
