Intro3

If you’re thinking about booking a trip to Sri Lanka, but you're not sure where to start, look no further. We’ve pulled together a list of the best places to visit, including towns, cities and attractions. So whatever you're into, we should have it covered. Start planning your holiday to Sri Lanka, and tick off these unmissable sights and places.

Kandy

You simply must spend at least one day in the city of Kandy. It’s a World Heritage site and there is so much to see and do here. You can hire a taxi driver for the day for a small fee and he will be happy to take you to all the best places. We recommend you visit one of the city’s tea plantations, wander around the Royal Botanical Garden, watch a traditional Kandyan dance show and go shopping in the Kandy City Centre Shopping Mall in Dalada Veediya. If you have time, why not go for a walk around Kandy Lake which was built in the early nineteenth century by a former king? It’s located next to the Temple of the Tooth and its beauty will leave you spellbound.

Intro1

Colombo

Another city you need to visit is Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Here, you should take time to view some wonderful pieces of artwork and artefacts in The Colombo National Museum. If you’re a keen golfer, then why not spend an afternoon at The Royal Colombo Golf Club? If you prefer to take things easy you could always go for a relaxing massage in one of the city’s wonderful spas. Go on, treat yourself.

If you like shopping, then you’ll be spoilt for choice here as Colombo has plenty of shopping malls for you to take your pick from. There’s also a theme park called Leisure World which is home to the first 9D cinema in Sri Lanka, as well as lots of rollercoasters and water rides.

Intro2

Sigiriya

Sigiriya is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Sri Lanka and as soon as you see this ancient palace and fortress on the summit of Lion Rock you’ll know why – it’s simply incredible. Many Sri Lankans call this historical monument the Eighth Wonder of the World, it’s a must-see for sure.

Mirissa

You’ll also want to go on a whale and dolphin watching tour and one of the best places to do this is in Mirissa. You’ll have to be up early, the boats leave at 7am and each tour lasts between three and five hours. Refreshments are provided and if you don’t see any whales then you get a free trip another day.

Intro4

Rekawa

If you holiday in Sri Lanka between April to September, then you should hire a driver to take you to Rekawa beach one night. From around 8.30pm till midnight, you can see Hawksbill, Olive Ridley, Green, Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles struggle ashore to lay their eggs.

It takes each turtle around half an hour to drag itself to a suitable spot and then around 45 minutes to dig a hole. You’ll be able to get close enough to see the eggs being laid before they get covered in sand and the turtle returns to the sea. It really is an incredible sight so make sure you don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity.

Intro5

Yala National Park

There are lots of national parks in Sri Lanka but the Yala National Park is definitely one of the best. It’s home to leopards, elephants, bears, peacocks, crocodiles and many more creatures. There are also over 200 different bird species here. If you can, pre-book your safari tour online as this will save you having to queue up on the day.
