Abu Dhabi is truly a place like no other. The city, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is frequently cited as being the richest on the planet and it surely lives up to that billing as the ‘Emirates’ is filled with pure luxury. It is a title that is incredibly well earned and even a short visit will have you experiencing luxury and opulence like never before.

Here we’ll outline some of the most luxurious things to do in the city, so you can have a taste of the high-life during your trip to the Emirates.

Yas Marina Circuit

Since the first race was officially held in 2009, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has become a big part of the Formula One calendar. The race takes place every November and is highly recommended if you are lucky enough to be in the city while it is being held. The 5.5km circuit, the sixth-longest F1 circuit in the world, is found on Yas Island. Outside of the F1 season, the public are welcome to take up experience drives on the circuit itself, giving you a taste of what it feels like to run the same course as Formula One’s most talented racers. Not many people can say they’ve done that!

Yas Waterworld

Also located on Yas Island, the man-made island situated within the capital, is Yas Waterworld. Since opening its doors in 2013, the waterpark has frequently been celebrated as one of the best of its kind (in the world!), with dozens of rides and attractions and something for all the family to experience. The park features the biggest sheet wave in the world, allowing thrill-seeking visitors to endlessly surf a perfect wave. Those looking for more of a relaxed afternoon can take a turn in the Al Raha River (‘Lazy River’), taking a seat in one of the inflatables and letting yourself to be gently taken down the river’s winding course.

Observation Deck at 300

The Observation Deck at 300 is the essence of class, style, and luxury. Found on the 74th floor of Tower 2 in the renowned Etihad Towers, the view gives you a 360-degree vantage point from one of the tallest points in the city. If the imagery feels familiar, it is because the iconic towers were recently used while filming in Abu Dhabi for the blockbuster movie, Fast and Furious 7. The dress code at Observation Deck at 300 is ‘business casual’, so be sure to dress accordingly. High Tea is served daily, with a wonderful selection of teas from places as far-reaching as China, Japan, South Africa, Singapore, and even England and America.

Emirates Palace Hotel

Those looking for a truly luxurious setting to come back to at the end of a day sight-seeing, would do well to make a booking at the Emirates Palace Hotel. Renowned for its hospitality and life of luxury, the Emirates Palace is a five-star hotel that lives up to its name as a ‘palace’. The grounds are simply breath-taking, and the rooms have stunning views over the city, that will make you want to stare out of your window for hours on end. There is a wonderful pool-come-beach area suitable for the whole family, and if you fancy it, it’s lovely to enjoy a mocktail or two sitting poolside. It has increasingly become a popular spot for romantics to propose, with a wealth of award-winning restaurants to choose from before popping the question.

Eastern Mangrove Lagoon National Park

Whether you are looking for a relaxing afternoon in the sunshine, or seeking more of an adventure, the Eastern Mangrove Lagoon is a must-visit stop for those coming to Abu Dhabi for a luxurious holiday. The National Park is eco-friendly, and offers donut boats for those looking to wind down and enjoy the sights. As well as that there are kayaks for the more adventurous. There is an excellent array of animals that have made their home at the park and a number of local operators run small tours with plenty of knowledge about the local wildlife and environment.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Boasting an incredible 82 domes of various different sizes, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is an exceptional feat of modern architecture, spreading out across over 30 acres. While it was only recently built (with construction finishing in 2007) it has fast become a symbol of Abu Dhabi’s cultural history as well as its luxury. A guided tour around the mosque shows off its beautiful architecture as well as the wonderfully landscaped grounds surrounding it. The water mirror featured in the grounds is a spectacular sight and is one that is highly recommended for viewing.

Abu Dhabi Desert Safari

The Abu Dhabi Desert Safari is a real must for those visiting the capital, and really gives you a glimpse into how life was before the city existed. The safari tour runs all day and into the evening, with tours starting mid-morning and running through until 9:30 p.m. every day. There is also a stunning night-time safari that runs from mid-afternoon right through until 9 a.m. the following day (giving you a night in the wild!) taking in the superb sights all night long out in the desert. Visitors can take a ride on a camel and go dune bashing. Overnight guests will set up camp in tents, and you can expect to see some terrific wildlife, including gazelles and wild camels. A lot of the overnight tours also provide local entertainment such as belly dancers too.

Captain Tony's Boat Tour

Much of Abu Dhabi is very much environmentally friendly, and Captain Tony’s Boat Tours are no different. While they do run motorboats, they’re good at keeping the speeds low, particularly near areas known to be popular spots for the wildlife. There stunning boat tours take in absolutely beautiful views, unlike anything you’re likely to have seen. You can just sit back and take in the luxurious sights surrounding you as the water expands as far as the eye can see. And if you’re lucky, you’ll be treated to the wonderful sight of dolphins in their natural habitat.

Ferrari World

Yas Waterworld isn't the only theme park on Yas Island. The island also hosts the celebrated Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the world’s largest indoor theme park, with the fastest roller coaster ever built. Adrenaline thrill-seekers will definitely want to make a pit stop here while travelling in the city. Formula Rossa reaches speeds of 149 mph with a 2-kilometre track, delivering just over 90 seconds of heart-pounding entertainment. There is literally nothing else quite like it on the planet. More rides are expected to open in the coming years so stay tuned; this city is forever changing.

The Corniche

Known to some as Corniche Road, The Corniche is a beautiful curve that runs alongside the western edge of the city’s main island. The walkway is a popular spot for people to simply stroll along and enjoy the beautiful views along the water. The stretch is also freely available for people to ride with their skateboards or skates, and has several parks for families to take advantage of. Walking the entire stretch is an impressive feat in itself, but it is well worth the effort. You can’t leave the city without first coming to The Corniche to truly appreciate the luxury of Abu Dhabi.
