World Cup Quiz Germany

by Travelbag on 27 May 2014, 15:05PM

Group G will see two of Europe’s powerhouse nations in Germany and Portugal face off against one another in a battle to top the group and progress through the stages of the World Cup with the easiest possible route to the final. Germany is one of the most successful nations in World Cup history winning the tournament 3 times. Portugal are less successful but have qualified for the tournament 6 times including 2014, with their best finish being 3rd in 1966. The United States and Ghana will provide stern opposition for the two European nations with the US being managed by ex-Germany coach Jürgen Klinsmann and also having a rich history in the FIFA World Cup having qualified for the tournament 10 times. Ghana came agonizingly close to reaching the semi-finals in 2010 before being beaten on penalties by Uruguay. The Black Stars will aim to prove that they are no flash in the pan and show they are certainly not there just to make up the numbers.

Germany is one of the most successful nations in World Cup history winning the tournament in 1954, 1974 and 1990 while also winning other major international honours such as the European Championship (3 times) and finishing with a Bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics. Best known for winning the 1974 World Cup in a come-back victory against the magical Netherlands side of the 70s featuring the legendary Johan Cruyff. Currently ranked as No.2 in the world in FIFA’s world rankings, Germany’s young and vibrant squad will provide tough opposition for anyone they meet in Brazil.

A country of impressive size, Germany houses the magnificent, forest-covered Bavarian mountains in the south along with the historic and cultural centre of Munich as well as the snow-capped northern Alps. The forested uplands and lowlands are traversed by 3 of Europe’s main rivers – the Rhine, Danube and Elbe. Once inhabited by various Germanic tribes, now Germany is a cultural behemoth with a truly one nation identity and splendid sights for all to see.
