intro1

With 300 days of sunshine, Gold Coasters have a lot to smile about and take their laid-back leisure lifestyle seriously.  Located in the south-east corner of Queensland, the Gold Coast is 94km south of Brisbane and continues to the New South Wales border. As a linear city along the Pacific Ocean, you’re never far from the beach and with the added advantage of the stunning hinterland as a backdrop to the city, there’s more than just beautiful beaches to explore. The Gold Coast (or GC as us locals call it) is the perfect destination for those that want an action packed holiday, which is reflected in Gold Coast Tourism’s slogan the GC is “Famous for Fun”.

Themeparks & Family Entertainment
Take advantage of Australia’s premium theme parks including Dreamworld (home to the Big Brother house), Movie World and Wet ‘n’ Wild. Each provides a full day of family fun with plenty of rides and attractions that cater for kids and kids at heart. Paradise Country Aussie Farm Tour, Tropical Fruit World and Currumbin Sanctuary also offer fantastic fun, whilst combining informative and educational experiences. There are also plenty of smaller scale attractions right in the heart of Surfers Paradise including the wonderfully named “Vomatron” and “Sling Shot“ rides at Adrenalin Park, Mini-Golf & Timezone – an indoor family entertainment centre featuring a plethora of arcade games, dodgems and laser tag.

Beaches
Find your own piece of paradise along the 70km stretch of soft golden beach to work on your sun-kissed glow. The beaches are patrolled with lifeguards present from dawn till dusk, so you can enjoy peace of mind while splashing in the surf. If you prefer to be close to the action, head to Surfers Paradise Beach or Main Beach where there are often a kaleidoscope of kite surfers jumping high above the water to entertain you. Head further south, to take in the old-school beachside charm of Palm Beach, Currumbin and Kirra, where you’ll be sure to spot long-boarders and stand up paddlers. If surfing is a must on your holiday Burleigh Heads, Coolangatta and Snapper Rocks are all excellent breaks. From June – October, you could be lucky enough to spot some whales frolicking just offshore or see them up close with one of the many Whale Watching Tour operators.

Natural Attractions
The Hinterland comprises of many parks and forests (some heritage listed) with boutique wineries scattered throughout. These are best viewed from above with a sunrise hot air balloon ride. Watch the sun slowly rise above the mountains and on a clear day you can see the Brisbane City skyline. Combine the hot air balloon ride with a champagne breakfast at a nearby homestead, which is the perfect start to the morning. If you still flying high, venture to Tambourine Rainforest Skywalk or Tree Top Walkway, both allow you to walk amongst the canopy of ancient flora perfectly accompanied by rainforest birdsongs. Back on the ground you can hike along the many walking trails ranging from beginner to advanced abilities, many of which will have picnic tables and spectacular waterfalls to view along the way. Mount Tambourine is a favourite for locals and tourists alike. Visit the Gallery Walk, a small street of shops filled with unusual vibrant shops, restaurants, wineries and art galleries. Experience the local bohemian lifestyle at the markets with handmade soaps, crafts and cooked goods or visit the impressive sparkling Glow Worm Cave.

intro6

Shopping
Take in a bit of retail therapy at the major shopping centres, Robina Town Centre, Pacific Fair and Australia Fair or enjoy the discounted brand outlets at Harbour Town. Every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday night, the Surfers Paradise esplanade comes alive with after-dinner strollers enjoying the night market stalls teeming with unique artworks, jewellery, gifts and homewares.

intro5

Dining & Entertainment
Indulge all your senses with a fantastic stage show at Jupiter’s Hotel & Casino combined with a delicious pre-show meal at one of their seven restaurants. Afterwards try your luck at the many table games or pokies. For a show that will spook you into fits of laughter, enjoy the cabaret delights of Draculas. Combining burlesque, modern dance and cheeky comedy, complete with a ghost train ride and 3-course dinner, this is a show like no other.
The Gold Coast is a food lover’s dream with a socialising culture strongly based around food. Broadbeach is well-known as the prime spot for excellent cuisine, ranging from award winning steakhouses and fine-dining gastronomic delicacies to vibrant international fares and quirky cafes.

So what are you waiting for - come and join the fun!
