A Different View of Las Vegas

Since its Rat Pack days Las Vegas has been inextricably associated with legendary shows, entertainers and gambling, earning itself the title of ‘The Entertainment Capital of the World’. In the past whenever I thought about Australia the first thing that popped into my head was the red earth of the Outback. So it came with great surprise to be travelling through rolling green hills and lush vegetation...

Great Rail Journeys from Vancouver

Great Rail Journeys from Vancouver

First-time visitors to British Columbia normally choose one of the two routes between Vancouver and either Jasper – ‘Journey through the Clouds’ – or Banff – ‘First Passage to the West’. Both are a complete contrast to the Coastal Passage journey and both options take the same route from Vancouver as far as the overnight stop at Kamloops where the tracks...

Big, bigger, biggest

They say that everything’s bigger in Texas and they sure weren’t fibbing- big hats, big smiles and big portions, my fly-drive trip to the Lone Star state was definitely big on all these things and more. My one week trip took in San Antonio, Bandera and Austin which was a great mix of cowboys, culture, history, live music and good old southern hospitality. Here is the first part of a se...
