Spend six days visiting Sri Lanka’s main attractions before enjoying an indulgent beach break in the Maldives. Your tour of ‘The Pearl of the Indian Ocean’ will take you to the UNESCO-protected city of Kandy, the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth, and the beautiful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. The major highlight, though, is Yala National Park – Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife park, home to elephants, crocodiles, leopards, and hundreds of bird species. Next, it’s time for some well-deserved R&R in the Maldives, where you’ll spend five nights at Reethi Faru. Lying on the secluded private island of Filaidhoo, in the Raa Atoll division, this luxury resort – with a focus on sustainability – boasts arguably one of the best water sports centres in the country. Try your hand at paddle boarding, or explore the islands on a guided jet ski tour – and then unwind with a cocktail at one of the resort’s many beachfront bars.

Day 1: Colombo – Kandy

On arrival at Colombo International Airport meet your guide for the 4-hour transfer to Kandy, stopping enroute for a taste of Sri Lanka’s famous sweet tropical pineapples. In the World Heritage Site of Kandy you’ll enjoy a personal tour of this last bastion of the Sri Lankan Kings with a drive around the lake and an evening visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic for a Puja Ceremony and performance of Kandyan dancing and drumming.

Day 2: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya

This morning’s visits include the beautiful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and a Ceylon tea factory. Then it’s on to Sri Lanka's most popular hill resort, Nuwara Eliya, for a 2-night stay. The region is home to Sri Lanka's highest mountain, Pidurutalagala (8282 feet), and is also known as ‘Little England’ because of its invigorating mountain climate and scenery. Optional excursions (Dec-May) can be arranged for those wishing to climb Sri Pada - the Holy Mountain or Adam’s Peak.

Day 3: Horton Plains & Tea Country Train Journey

Take an early morning stroll in Horton Plains National Park, an undulating plateau of grasslands usually only visible before 10.00am due to the heavy mist which engulfs the area. See the sheer vertical drop from the escarpment at ‘Worlds End’, and then board a train (weather permitting) for a magical journey through Sri Lanka’s tea country – a fabulous way to glimpse Sri Lanka’s hill villages and daily local life. Return to your hotel in time for a traditional High Tea (optional).

Day 4: Nuwara Eliya – Yala National Park

Today’s scenic drive pauses at the spectacular waterfall of Rawana Ella, site of the mythical kidnapping of Princess Sitha of India, before continuing to Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s famous wildlife game park and one of the top attractions for visitors. In addition to harbouring one of the highest-density leopard populations in the world, there’s also a good chance of seeing elephants, crocodiles, sloth bears, deer and many species of bird.

Day 5: Yala – Udawalawe National Park

Drive to the Elephant Transit Home at Udawalawe where, in conjunction with Born Free, orphan elephants are given shelter and care before being returned to the wild. Afterwards, venture out on a jeep safari through Udawalawe National Park, a great place to see the wild elephants.

Day 6: Udawalawe National Park – Galle

Today, head to the fortified old town of Galle, its surrounding beautiful beaches dotted with luxurious villas and classy boutique hotels. Galle is a city best explored on foot; be sure not to miss Galle Fort, famous UN World Heritage Site where you can wander through the amazing ramparts and streets. Your tour ends as you transfer to your chosen beach hotel.
