
Head out from New Orleans into Louisiana and the small town of Vacherie. Here you stop the night at Oak Alley Plantation for a taste of quintessential southern life in one of the most picturesque, and recognised, plantation homes of the south.
Overnight: Oak Alley Plantation
From Oak Alley, continue west deep into Cajun country and the oil town of Lafayette, from which you can explore the best of the swamps and bayous the area is known for.
Overnight: Bois Des Chenes
From Lafayette, head east and back over the Mississippi and into Alabama to the pretty Gulf Coast town of Mobile. Mobile is a town regarded for its vibrant Mardi Gras that pre-dates the more famous festival in New Orleans and its picturesque Spanish and colonial architecture. Other highlights include Fort Conde and USS Alabama.
Overnight: Radisson Admiral Semmes
The journey north across the southern Alabama countryside takes you through a land of small sleepy villages and rich fertile fields and farms to the city of Montgomery, birthplace of the civil rights movement and former Confederate capital. The city achieved international notoriety due to the famous actions of activist Rosa Parks and the inspired ministry of Dr Martin Luther King Jr that helped spark the civil rights movement across the south.
Overnight: Quality Inn & Suites
Continue on today through the sleepy backwaters of Alabama and on into Georgia for your final destination; Atlanta. Extend your stay here in Atlanta or maybe continue east to the attractive old society town of Savannah on Georgia’s pretty Atlantic coast
