10 Days Christchurch to Christchurch from £460
Day 1: Christchurch – Greymouth / Lake Brunner
Travel across the Canterbury Plains and through the scenic Southern Alps to Greymouth. Visit Shantytown, a colourful replica of a gold-mining town of the 1800s. (258 km / 160 miles)

Day 2: Greymouth – Franz Josef Glacier
Travel south to Franz Josef Glacier, where the best way to see this spectacular steep glacier is by scenic flight (own expense) – the views are amazing! (177 km / 111 miles)

Day 3: Franz Josef Glacier – Queenstown
Continue south over the Haast Pass, the centre of the South Westland World Heritage Area, then travel on past Lake Hawea and Lake Wanaka to Queenstown. Spend two nights at The Hermitage, the property has an elevated position, partly surrounded by native forest with enchanting views of the Remarkables mountains. (404 km / 252 miles)

Day 4: Queenstown
Enjoy a full day exploring the delights of Queenstown, an adrenaline-loving town nestled beside the blue waters of Lake Wakatipu. Try jet boating for a thrilling, speedy ride through the waters of the Shotover Canyon and Kawarau Rivers. More laidback options include fishing, golfing, walking and hiking or perhaps a ride on the city’s gondola to experience fantastic views of this beautiful region.
Day 5: Queenstown – Te Anau
Travel on to Te Anau, gateway to Fiordland National Park. Visit the Glowworm Caves or take a scenic flight over beautiful Doubtful Sound. Your next two nights’ accommodation will be in Te Anau. (170 km / 106 miles)

Day 6: Milford Sound
Some time at leisure to explore beautiful Fiordland. Flight-seeing in this region must rate as one of the greatest sightseeing options in the world. It is a breathtaking way to experience mighty Milford Sound and to see mile-high Mitre Peak, one of the most famous and spectacular views.
Day 7: Te Anau – The Catlins
Follow the Southern Scenic Route through Manapouri and down to the coast. Stop in Invercargill before travelling through some of the most lush and fertile farmland in New Zealand. Then enter the Catlins, a region boasting dense rainforests and wildlife such as penguins and dolphins. (247 km / 154 miles)

Day 8: The Catlins – Dunedin
Travel today to Balclutha, located on the banks of the Clutha River. Follow the coast north to Dunedin. Accommodation tonight is at Larnach Castle, built in 1871 by William Larnach, a man of great vision who helped shape New Zealand’s history. (160 km / 100 miles)

Day 9: Dunedin – Lake Tekapo
Take the coastal road north to Oamaru before turning inland to Twizel. On the foreshores you have an opportunity of viewing two species of penguin – the yellow-eyed variety during the daytime and the smaller blue penguin at dusk –along with a visit to Mount Cook National Park. (318 km / 199 miles)

Day 10: Lake Tekapo – Christchurch
