The Tranzcoastal

The TranzCoastal provides a daily link between Christchurch, the major gateway of the South Island, and the picturesque port of Picton, in the Marlborough Sounds. The TranzCoastal connects with the inter-island ferry before crossing through grape country and over plains, heading south down the east coast through salt mountains and river valleys. For over 100 kilometres it runs along a thin ledge of land pinned between the Pacific Ocean and the rugged Kaikoura Ranges. Kaikoura offers unique whale, seal and dolphin watching experiences, followed by the lush beauty of farms and vineyards of North Canterbury. This very scenic journey passes through the gardens of Christchurch’s residential suburbs on its way to the station. Departures are daily.
