Hangi & Maori Concert

Tour HANCON – 3.5hrs

Gain an insight into the fascinating world of Maori culture during this unique evening of dinner and entertainment. At Tamaki Maori Village, a sacred ceremony known as the Wero takes place and is followed by the Karanga (the call), as you are welcomed in to the village. Experience the Hongi (the greeting) and learn about the pride of the Maori displayed through song and dance by the local tribespeople. As the evening unfolds, you will enjoy a sumptuous feast or Hangi – a traditional meal prepared beneath the ground on hot rocks. The food cooks slowly over several hours - a combination of smoking and steaming, and the end result is a distinctly flavoured, succulent and mouthwatering meal. The evening ends with the Poroporoaki, a closing ceremony. There will be waiata (song) and whaikorero (speeches) before you are safely transferred back to your accommodation.
