The Overlander

The Overlander is a journey through the heart of the North Island. Travelling daily between New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland, and Wellington, the harbour capital. In just one day you pass through fertile rolling farmland, lush forests, across the volcanic plateau of the central North Island, over stunning river gorges and sprawling plains and through a host of small, out of the way rural settlements. The world famous Raurimu Spiral between Taumaranui and Tongariro National Park is an engineering feat which won a prestigious International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark citation in August 1997.
