13 Day Alaska, Yukon & Inside Passage

Day 1: Arrive Anchorage
On arrival into Anchorage, collect your rental car and head for your downtown hotel. This afternoon and evening is yours to explore this fascinating city, its size and modernity at odds with the surrounding wilderness.

Day 2: Anchorage - Kenai - Seward (127 miles)
Head south to the Kenai Peninsula and enjoy a wonderful sightseeing cruise (included) through the mountains and glaciers of Kenai Fjords National Park. Whales, sea lions and dolphins are just some of the marine life that can be spotted from deck. Check-in to your Seward hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Seward - Valdez (110 miles)
Today, we have included a trip aboard the car ferry from Whittier to Valdez across beautiful Prince William Sound. Weather permitting, there's wonderful views of the 300-foot high, four-mile wide Columbia Glacier along the way. The charming resort of Valdez also serves as the southern terminal for the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline.

Day 4 & 5: Valdez - Kennicott (175 miles)
Head into the heart of Wrangell St. Elias National Park, home to many of the highest peaks in North America, for a relaxing two-night stay in the village of Kennicott, close to McCarthy. Optional activities to enjoy in the park include hiking, mountain biking, flightseeing or glacier walks.

Day 6: Kennicott - Beaver Creek (363 miles)
Cross into Canada's remote Yukon Territory today, and travel along the northern part of the Alaska Highway, built by servicemen during WWII. Tonight's accommodation in Beaver Creek is just a few miles from the border.

Day 7: Beaver Creek - Whitehorse (276 miles)
Travel to Whitehorse this morning, the small capital city of the Yukon Territory, and spend the rest of the day exploring its natural and historic attractions, which include the SS Klondike sternwheeler and the Transportation Museum.

Day 8: Whitehorse - Dawson City (332 miles)
Follow in the footsteps of the early gold rush prospectors as you head north along the Klondike Highway to the biggest boom town of them all, Dawson City. Pass the Five Finger Rapids along the way, a dangerous hazard to the early explorers. This evening, try your luck at Diamond Tooth Gertie's gambling hall, which also offers floorshows by the famous Can-Can girls.

Day 9: Dawson City - Tok (188 miles)
Explore Dawson's colourful, old-fashioned houses and dusty streets that help retain a great frontier atmosphere. Drive out to Bonanza Creek, where the discovery of gold in the late 19th Century sparked the most famous gold rush in history. Visit the gold dredge or even try your luck at gold panning.

Day 10: Dawson City (188 miles)
Continue west through the frontier wilderness along the Top of the World Highway, and cross back into Alaska for an overnight stay in Tok. This small community had its beginnings as a construction camp in 1942, when the Alaska Highway was built in order to reduce the threat of Japanese invasion of North America.

Day 11: Tok - Fairbanks (206 miles)
Drive north-west along the Alaska and Richardson Highways to the rugged, interior town of Fairbanks, the second-largest community in Alaska. Spend the afternoon exploring its museums or head to one of the nearby hot springs for a relaxing soak.

Day 12 & 13: Fairbanks - Denali National Park (71 miles)
Travel south to beautiful Denali National Park. Denali is the Native Athabascan term for Mount McKinley, which at 20,320 feet is the highest peak in the whole of North America. Check-in to your accommodation for a two-night stay. Exploration of the park's tundra and mountain scenery is on guided excursions organised by the national parks system, and these tours often leave quite early in the morning to maximise wildlife-viewing opportunities. Bears, caribou and moose are just some of the animals that may be spotted.

Day 14: - Denali National Park - Anchorage (237 miles)
Continue south along the Parks Highway to Anchorage where your tour comes to an end. Return your rental car by the same time it was collected on day one to avoid any additional charges.
