Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump

Enjoy a full day at one of the oldest, largest and best preserved Buffalo Jump sites in North America – Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. On your way south, with the Rockies off to your right, you will travel through the outpost town of Nanton where you will be able to see one of the last remaining World War II Lancaster Bombers. At the Head-Smashed-Inn Buffalo Jump Interpretive Centre, you will gain insight into the remarkable hunting traditions and unique culture of the Blackfeet people, as you listen to stories and presentations performed for you by the Blackfeet guides. There is also an interpretative trail you can follow outside the centre which takes you past ancient stone rings, and gets you out into this mystical countryside. Your day ends after visiting the site of a large glacial erratic just south of Calgary, where you will learn how the landscape was carved during the last Ice Age.
