Day 1: Perth – Busselton
Collect your Avis car and head south on Highway One to Bunbury, home to the Koombana Bay dolphins. A group of up to 100 wild bottlenose dolphins live in the city’s bay. You are booked on the Dolphin Watch Cruise that departs at 2pm. From here, continue to Busselton where you can take a stroll on the southern hemisphere’s longest wooden jetty. (241km / 166miles)

Day 2: Busselton – Margaret River
From Busselton it’s only a short drive to Margaret river, home to Australia’s finest wineries, including Leuwin Estate. Margaret River is set on the side of a river, close to the coast, while the town is known for its surfing beaches and coastal scenery. Explore the fine wineries, beaches and gourmet delights that the region has to offer. (47km / 29miles)

Day 3: Margaret River – Albany
Travel south on the Bussell highway, then through Nannup to Pemberton. The drive through the state’s southwest corner is very picturesque, with lush rainforests around Pemberton. In Walpole’s ‘Valley of the Giants’, the ‘Tree Top Canopy Walk’ is highly recommended. From Walpole, you will then continue on to your Albany hotel (2 nights). (460km / 288miles)

Day 4: Albany
Albany overlooks Princess Royal Harbour and many elevated vantage points around the town provide spectacular views. Today you will be able to visit Whaleworld, the only whaling museum created from an operational whaling station. Please note that whales visit the waters around Albany between July and October.

Day 5: Albany – Perth
Depart for Perth today taking the Albany Highway. Just north of Albany you can visit the Stirling Range National Park – Western Australia’s only Alpine area. Other good stops include the Mount Barker Tourist Information Centre, located in the well-restored station, and the nearby Banksia Farm, which is also worth a visit. Your car is booked until tomorrow and should be returned to either the city or airport depots by the same time as it was picked up on Day 1 to avoid any additional charges. (314km / 196miles)
