10 Days Hobart to Hobart from £516
Day 1: Hobart
Collect your car and take time to explore Hobart, Australia’s second oldest city. Life in the city has revolved around the waterfront, from the days of whaling to the present. Take a wander round the Sullivans Cove area, including St David’s Park, Parliament House, Salamanca Place and the former mariner’s village of Battery Point.
Accommodation: Standard: Rydges Hobart, Superior: Somerset on the Pier, One Bedroom Deluxe
Day 2: Hobart – Port Arthur & Freycinet National Park
Today, depart Hobart and head for the Tasman Peninsula. Visit the Blowhole, Devil’s Kitchen and the Tasman Arch – all natural features of the peninsula’s rocky coastline. Continue on to Port Arthur, one of Australia’s most significant historic sites, where you can spend a few hours exploring. Head north along the east coast of the island to Freycinet Peninsula, an area of great scenic beauty with rolling mountains and sparkling blue waters. Check in to Freycinet Lodge for the next two nights (breakfast included). (308km/193miles)
Accommodation: Standard: Freycinet Lodge (Freycinet Cabin), Superior: Freycinet Lodge (Wineglass Deluxe Cabin)
Day 3: Freycinet National Park
Spend the day exploring this beautiful national park.
Day 4: Freycinet National Park – St. Helens
Set off along the eastern coast and en route stop at Bicheno, a delightful coastal resort with superb scenery. Travel on to St. Helens, one of the busiest fishing ports in Tasmania, well known for crayfish, flounder and scallops. (106km/66miles)
Accommodation: Standard : Scamander Beachside Resort, Superior: Doherty St Helens Resort
Day 5: St. Helens – Launceston
Depart St. Helens and pass through Scottsdale – named after James Scott whose journey in 1852 led to the opening up of the area – on the way to Launceston, Tasmania's second largest city. Graced with magnificent Victorian streetscapes and lovingly maintained historic architecture, it is worth spending time here and visiting the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery, regarded as the best non-capital city museum in Australia. (169km/106miles)
Accommodation: Standard: Colonial on Elizabeth, Superior: Peppers Seaport
Day 6: Launceston – Cradle Mountain
Depart Launceston and travel via Deloraine, an attractive town with charming colonial buildings and numerous attractions such as the Folk Museum and the Tasmanian Wildlife Park, to Cradle Mountain National Park. Check in at Cradle Mountain Lodge for the next two nights (breakfast included). (142km/89miles)
Accommodation: Standard: Cradle Mountain Lodge (Pencil Pine Cabin), Superior: Cradle Mountain Lodge (Spa Cabin)
Day 7: Cradle Mountain
Today you will have more time to explore the area or simply take time to relax. Guided walks and horse riding are just some of the activities available if you so choose.
Day 8: Cradle Mountain – Strahan
Leave Cradle Mountain and head through the townships of Rosebery and Zeehan on the way to Strahan, situated on the Macquarie Harbour. This quiet, sleepy town is touched by history, like no other in the nation. Take a wilderness cruise on the Gordon River or enjoy a seaplane tour over this beautiful region (both own expense). (159km/99miles)
Accommodation: Standard: Strahan Village, Superior: Franklin Manor (incl. breakfast)
Day 9: Strahan – Hobart
Travel from Strahan, via Queenstown, to Hobart. Queenstown, the ‘capital’ of the west, has a very distinctive character. Mining has been the mainstay for more than a century, with displays of the past and tours of the present mine operations being essential for visitors wanting to gain an appreciation of this colourful historic town. Continue on to Hobart and your overnight accommodation. (286km/179miles)
Accommodation: Standard: Rydges Hobart, Superior: Somerset on the Pier, One Bedroom Deluxe
Day 10: Hobart
Today drop your vehicle at the airport or the city depot by the same time as it was picked up on Day 1 to avoid additional charges.
