3 Day 4WD Fraser Island Self-Drive

A 4WD self-drive tour of Fraser Island is a great way to experience this World Heritage-listed site at your own pace. You’ll be given a comprehensive island briefing before setting off, ensuring you make the most of your time in this spectacular area.

Day 1: Hervey Bay – Fraser Island
You’ll be collected from your Hervey Bay hotel early this morning before cruising across the Great Sandy Straits to Moon Point on Fraser Island. On arrival, you’ll join a tour which travels through the heart of the island, stopping to stroll through magnificent Yidney Rainforest. Continue on to Fraser Island Wilderness Retreat for a buffet lunch. Collect your 4WD vehicle and your self-drive adventure begins. You will be staying here for two nights in a timber lodge, 200m from the surf beach. (L)

Day 2: Fraser Island
A full day at leisure. Scenic 4WD circuits and walking tracks take in some of the largest of the lakes. Cool and peaceful rainforests of towering satinay and brush box trees, some over 1,000 years old, contrast with swampy wetlands, heathlands full of wild flowers and coastal strands of pandanus palms. The view from Indian Head is spectacular so make sure you take your camera.

Day 3: Fraser Island – Hervey Bay
Your morning is at leisure. Return your vehicle at midday before joining the final tour of your adventure this afternoon. You’ll travel north along Seventy Five Mile Beach to beautiful Eli Creek for a refreshing swim and stroll and then on to the historic Maheno Shipwreck. Visit beautiful Coloured Sands before travelling though the middle of the island to visit Lake Garawongera for a relaxing swim or stroll. The afternoon concludes with a leisurely drive back to Moon Point, where passengers board the ferry for the sunset cruise back to Hervey Bay.
