5 Days Vientiane to Luang Prabang
Tour 5HLT
Departures: Tuesdays
Day 1: Vientiane – City sightseeing:
On arrival in Vientiane you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Laos’s principal city is barely recognisable as an Asian capital and this is a great part of its charm. Weathered leafy villas, Russian and Chinese architecture, dusty streets and a tiny central business district make this one of Asia's most intriguing capitals. This afternoon, tour the city's sights, including Wat Sissaket, Vientiane’s oldest temple built in 1818. All other temples in Vientiane have been re-constructed after their destruction by the Siamese in 1828. You will also visit Haw Pha Kaew - the former Royal temple now converted to a museum, Pha That Luang - the most important national monument in Laos and a symbol of the Monarchy and the Buddhist religion and the Patuxai Monument. In the evening enjoy the sunset over the banks of the Mekong River.
Accommodation: Standard: Novotel Vientiane, Deluxe: Settha Palace Hotel
Day 2: Vientiane – Luang Prabang:
Transfer to the airport for the flight to Luang Prabang. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a three-night stay. Combining a ruggedly beautiful Mekong River setting with superb historic architecture and a sedate, friendly atmosphere, Luang Prabang has retained a sense of tradition and culture perhaps unrivalled in any other contemporary South East Asian city. Described, when listed as a World Heritage site, as the best-preserved city in Asia, you will enjoy a guided walk through the streets of Luang Prabang with a chance to visit the Dala Market and Wat Xieng Thong, Luang Prabang’s most magnificent temple. Back in Luang Prabang participate in a Lao-style cooking class and learn about traditional ingredients. (BD)
Accommodation: Standard: Sala Prabang, Deluxe: Le Residence Phou Vao
Day 3: Luang Prabang:
This morning visit the Royal Palace Museum, full of magnificent Lao art, before taking a boat trip on the Mekong River to the Pak Ou caves with their thousands of Buddha images (make sure you bring a torch). In the afternoon you will also visit a H’mong hilltribe village where you can witness the traditional practices of the ethnic minorities that live in this area and perhaps sample some of their potent Lao-Lao (rice wine). Before sunset climb Mount Phousi for superb views of the town and river. (B)
Day 4: Luang Prabang and the Kuang Si Falls:
After breakfast, travel to Kuang Si Waterfalls, stopping on the way at a local hilltribe village to gain an insight in to this significant tribe's lifestyle. On arrival at Kuang Si you will have a chance to swim and relax before heading back to Luang Prabang. The afternoon is yours at leisure. (B)
Day 5: Depart Luang Prabang:
This morning transfer to the airport for your ongoing flight. (B)
